Guangzhou City Practitioner Mr. Ma Minqing Arrested and His Wife Sentenced to Forced Labour

In the city of Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, Falun Dafa practitioners Mr. Ma Minqing and his wife, Ms. Zheng Jie'er, had been forced into homelessness for some time. They were the main targets of persecution that the Public Security Bureau of Yuexiu District had focused on. Ms. Zheng Jie'er was arrested on July 23rd, 2006, and was sentenced to two years of forced labour. The same office arrested Mr. Ma Minqing on October 8th, 2006.

Back in 2001, the 610 Office¹ plotted to arrest Mr. Ma and have him confined to a Brainwashing Centre, but he escaped. Later on he and his wife were forced to become homeless, and the Guangzhou "610 Office" State Security agents set their sights on arresting them.

At 2 p.m. on July 23rd, 2006, Ms. Zheng went outside to call her family and did not return. Twenty-four hours later, the Public Security Bureau of the Yuexiu District informed her family that she was in the custody of the Tianpingjia Detention Centre, a sub-police station in the Yuexiu District. On July 26th, family members went to Tianpingjia Detention Centre to ask for her release, but they were denied. Instead, she was sentenced to two years in Guangzhou Chatou Forced Labour Camp.

On the afternoon of October 8th, Yuexiu Public Bureau agents arrested Mr. Ma Minqing while he was on his way to do some shopping. The next day his family received a phone call from the police saying that he had been arrested and was being held at a police station. When asked which police station he was in, the answer was: "I don't know."

Aying, Mr. Ma Minqing's mother and also a practitioner, was held at the Sanshui Women's Forced Labour Camp for a year for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution in 2002. According to informed sources, she disappeared after October 10th, 2006. It is thought that she may have been rounded up by State Security Agents. Many practitioners have recently been arrested.
