Ms. Li Guiping is currently detained in Beijing Women's Prison. Right before the 2007 Chinese New Year, at a mandatory meeting for everyone in the prison, Ms. Li shouted "Falun Dafa is good!" After this incident, she was detained in the disciplinary unit for further persecution. During her detainment in this unit, she was deprived of any type of communication with her family. Around May 1st, 2007, her family called prison official Huang Qinghua (superior team leader) to enquire about Ms. Li's condition. Huang told them that she was fine and the prison staff were trying their best to help her. They learned from Huang that Ms. Li had shouted "Falun Dafa is good" again at a meeting before March 8th, which is International Women's Day, and the prison officials decided to solve the problem "from its root." This only meant one thing: the prison authorities planned to intensify the torture of Ms. Li!

Ms. Li's family asked Huang Qinghua, "Did you beat her again? Did you prohibit her from sleeping like you did before?"

Huang said, "No. Our prison is a model unit."

Ms. Li's family told Huang, "All of our neighbours know Guiping is a good person. What did she do wrong that made you lock her up? All she did was to practise exercises. Why do you jail so many elderly women? Without the police uniforms, you are civilians, too. You also have children. Why don't you people give us a chance to live, too? Are you truly helping Guiping? Why do you torture her? Didn't the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) claim that they wouldn't beat people?"

Huang said, "Li Guiping should 'behave' so that she can gain points and get out of prison early. She doesn't have any points so far."

Ms. Li's family said, "She is unjustly imprisoned. What can she do? Is it such a big deal to shout some words?"

Huang appeared to be polite and agreed to pass the family's concerns on to higher levels. But Huang also told the family that they might or might not be allowed to see Ms. Li. Huang even suggested that they try to persuade her to renounce Falun Gong.

According to families of other detained practitioners, around May 1st, 2007, the number of visits granted to practitioners' families in this prison dropped to half of what it once was. We don't know the reason behind this. We speculate that maybe many practitioners responded to Li Guiping shouting "Falun Dafa is good" and took similar actions, and, as a penalty, the prison authorities have refused to let their families visit them. (This is speculation and has not yet been confirmed.)
