Five Falun Gong Practitioners from Hubei, Shangdong, Guangdong, Jilin and Hunan Provinces Pass Away as a Result of the Persecution

Ms. Tao Shouzhen, 68, is a Falun Gong practitioner and a retired teacher from Sheng Village in Xinzhou District of Wuhan City, Hubei Province. On April 7th, 2000, she was arrested by local authorities Qiu Yanjun and Chen Hanbo while on her way to Beijing to appeal for the good name of Falun Gong. She was detained in Xinzhou Detention Centre for several weeks. The detention centre staff fined her three thousand yuan1 and gave her a blank piece of paper as a receipt. In July 2000, Chen Hanbo extorted one thousand, five hundred yuan from Ms. Tao's salary using the excuse of charging her for "living expenses."

On December 31st, 2000, Ms. Tao again went to Beijing to appeal and successfully returned. The local police station again arrested Tao Shouzhen and held her in a detention centre. She was released on January 13th, 2001. The persons in charge of the district education department, Zhu Huaiqing and Shu Zisong, actively cooperated with the policy of persecution. They expelled Ms. Tao from work and stopped paying her salary.

In November 2001, the village head hired someone to remove Falun Gong signs exposing the persecution. Ms. Tao asked the person not to do so and was reported to the village head. She was again arrested and detained in the detention centre. She was forcibly subjected to brainwashing for one month and had to pay five hundred and twenty yuan in "living expenses."

On July 2nd, 2002, Ms. Tao's brother went to request Tao's salary from the 610 Office2 leader, but returned with Tao's dead body. Due to a long period of persecution under enormous pressure, Tao had a stroke and passed away on January 23rd, 2007. After Tao Shouzhen's death, the government only gave two thousand yuan to her family to bury her but took no responsibility for the premature death.

Ms. Peng Xiying from Laizhou City, Shandong Province

Ms. Peng Xiying, 70, lives in Laizhou City, Shandong Province. She started practising Falun Gong in 1996. Before she practised Falun Gong, she had various heart and lung ailments due to bronchitis, and had difficulty managing her daily life. After she learned Falun Gong, all of her illnesses disappeared. Although she was never educated, she was able to read Falun Dafa books at group study.

Since the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Peng wanted to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, but was blocked by the authorities. She was then constantly harassed by the police. Her husband was sentenced and fined. Her daughter and son-in-law were also forced to become homeless due to the persecution. The elderly lady was seriously shocked. There were also people sneaking into her house and harassing her, trying to determine the whereabouts of her daughter and son-in-law, which prevented her from sleeping normally. Eventually her home was confiscated. Her Falun Gong books were confiscated and her actions were restricted. There were people constantly following her.

Liang Tianying from Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province

Ms. Liang Tianying, 68, lived in Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province. She began practising Falun Gong more than ten years ago. Her illnesses disappeared after she began the practice. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began, she had been detained by the local 610 Office and detention centre. She was also constantly harassed and persecuted. The police constantly followed her. Her family was harassed in May of this year. The elderly lady was under pressure for many years, which caused her mind and body to become exhausted. Her health declined dramatically and she passed away on May 19th, 2007.

Ms. Wang Weidong from Changchun City

Ms. Wang Weidong, in her sixties, lived in Changchun. She was a professor in the Law School of Jilin University. She began practising Falun Gong in 1994 and was a key member of the Falun Dafa Association in Changchun. In the early days of the persecution, Wang went to Beijing to appeal for the good name of Falun Gong and was afterward secretly followed by the police. This caused her to live under enormous pressure and she became sick. She passed away in November 2006.

Mr. Wu Junsheng from Baojing City, Hunan Province

Mr. Wu Junsheng was a high school teacher in Baojing City, Hunan Province. He retired early due to bad health. After beginning Falun Gong practice, all of his illnesses vanished. He volunteered to be the assistant at his local practice site. After July 20th, 1999, he was arrested and detained twice annually. He was forced to watch brainwashing videos during his detention. When he was released in early 2002, he was under enormous psychological pressure and passed away in 2002.

2. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
