According to a Radio Free Asia (RFA) report on March 11th, 2009, the media overseas is paying close attention to the cases of over a dozen Falun Gong practitioners from Qingdao who are facing impending trials. Local Falun Gong practitioners' persecution cases have been gradually brought to public attention, this includes police use of torture devices, beating practitioners, and sending healthy practitioners to mental hospitals.

Beginning next Tuesday, thirteen practitioners will be tried for "sabotaging the implementation of the law." While doing this case report, the reporter discovered more cases of persecution. Radio Free Asia mentioned one of the thirteen practitioners, Lu Xueqin, was paralysed from the waist down after having been tortured and beaten around the clock for nine days. The perpetrator was a policeman named Min Hang from the Qingdao North District Liaoyuanlu Police Station. Her doctor diagnosed her with thrombosis, and it is incurable since she missed the crucial time for the treatment. After she was released to home detention, Lu Xueqin spoke of her nightmare which began in 2000 when she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.

Lu Xueqin said: " We went to Beijing in 2000 to appeal for Falun Gong. The authorities took dozens of us to the Fuyoujie Police Station. The policemen there stripped the telephone lines, and tied the wires to our middle fingers and began to shock us with electricity. You could hear people jumping on the ground and the smell of burning flesh in the air. Over twenty practitioners were shocked that day. One practitioner was shocked with eight electric batons. He was rolling on the ground until they had run out of electricity. Li Cailing from Qingdao was black and blue from the chest down. The policemen hit Jiang Fang's jaw repeatedly, which damaged her teeth and left a serious cut on her tongue. She was not able to eat for a long time. After we returned, the director of the Qingdao North district Liaoyuanlu Police Station hung the three of us up, Qiaoyun, Jiang Fang and me. Our feet barely touched the ground, and we were beaten for two days straight. He threatened me, saying, 'If you dare to go back to Beijing to appeal, I will destroy your body, ruin your reputation and break you financially. I have no responsibility even if I kill you.'"

Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Shouwei is also facing trial. His mother also went to Beijing and was tortured at that time. Her daughter-in-law described the situation. There were several young policemen beating the elderly lady, using electric batons to shock her and using a rope to whip her; her entire body was covered with bruises. She took a year to recover and regain the normal colour of her skin.

A middle school teacher Hu Keling was fired from her job because she would not give up her belief, she suffered inhuman torture and was later send to a mental hospital. She suffered four months there and was released in a psychotic state. It took her six months to recover.

On Wednesday, Hu Keling described her treatment while she was in the mental hospital to this reporter: "We were tied down on a bed day and night, with hands and feet tied to the bed frame. There was a rope that held the body down on the bed across the chest. One could not turn on the bed, and had no choice but to relieve oneself on the bed. I began a hunger strike against this inhumane treatment. They force-fed me and left the feeding tube in me which caused severe nausea, I took it out, but they put it back in. They found five to six mentally ill male patients to pin me down on the concrete floor, remove my trousers and give me injections. They gave me injections every few days. After one month, I could not see things clearly, my period stopped, and I developed tremors of my upper and lower extremities. After just a few days in the hospital they transformed a normal and healthy human being into a mental patient, I did not know what kind of medicine they used on me. I felt foggy headed and extreme fearful."

During the four months in the mental hospital, the school withheld her salary, stating it was used for her medical bills.

Hu Keling has been in hiding for three years. She asked: "The persecution in Mainland China is extremely brutal. We are all Chinese, so why is Falun Gong under attack in China while being practised freely and respected in Hong Kong and Taiwan?"
