Police Arrest and Brutally Torture Ms. Yang Wenjie and Ransack Her Home

At around 6:30 p.m. on June 1st, 2009, Ms. Yang Wenjie was about to leave her home and had just walked down the stairs when she was arrested by over twenty police from the Zhaoyuan Police Department and 610 Office¹. Among the officers were Du Weixian, Sun Qiquan and a locksmith. As soon as they saw Ms. Yang, they surrounded her, beat and kicked her to the ground, grabbed her arms, stole her house key, and handcuffed her hands behind her back before dragging her into a car. They ransacked her home and storage shed, broke the lock on her closet, made two large holes in her five-drawer chest, threw her clothes and blankets all over the ground, and confiscated Ms. Yang's friend's computer, printer and various Falun Gong books. Sun Qiquan even took the spare change that was in a cup, the seat cushions and a small clock. Currently Ms. Yang Wenjie's house key is still in the hands of the police.

After the ransacking, the police took Ms. Yang to the notorious Lingnan Gold Mine Brainwashing Centre in Zhaoyuan City. In the police car, Ms. Yang yelled "Falun Gong is good," and was slapped by Sun Qiquan. When they arrived at the brainwashing centre, they handcuffed Ms. Yang to a bed while someone surnamed Ji beat her with a broom. One of Ms. Yang's arms bled and the other was badly bruised. Ji ordered Qu Tao, Xu Jianzheng, and someone surnamed Song to hang her by one of her arms from an iron pipe.

Ms. Yang Wenjie went on a hunger strike to protest the brutal torture. Led by Song Shaochang, seven or eight people pried open her mouth with a shoe brush and force-fed her barbarically. Ms. Yang was hung from the iron pipe for two weeks. She was force-fed every other day.

Ms. Yang's body and mind were extremely devastated. Because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officers were afraid of shouldering the responsibility of the possible death of Ms. Yang due to torture, they released her after torturing her for two weeks.

Police from the Zhaoyuan Police Department, "610 Office," and other CCP officers have recently arrested practitioners recklessly and ransacked their homes without any legal basis. They even bring locksmiths to open doors so they can enter and exit as they wish. In the beginning of June 2009, they arrested practitioners Ms. Zhang Shuchun, Ms. Wang Haohong, Mr. Li Yongjie, Mr. Peng Lekuan and others. Four practitioners, including Ms. Zhang Shuchun, were taken to the detention centre. The brainwashing centre currently still holds five practitioners.
