After the persecution of Falun Gong was launched by the Chinese Communist Party in 1999, Mr. Deng Chuanjiu went to Tiananmen Square in December to expose the crimes of the Party and again tell people the truth about Falun Gong. On January 2nd, 2000, he was escorted back to Chengdu and detained in the Chengdu Drug Rehabilitation Centre for two days. He was then taken away by the Pengzhou City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) after refusing to give up Falun Gong. He was released after 45 days of detention on February 20th, 2000. During his detention, Mr. Deng was brutally tortured by officers of the police station and township government. The abuse left him with bruises all over his body.

It was shortly before the New Year when Mr. Deng was detained. Officers from the police station and township government searched his home without producing any legal paperwork or following any legal procedures. When no one was at home, they pried open the door and confiscated all the valuable items in his home, including food. They provided no written evidence for what they stole. What was most distressing was that they told the neighbours and anyone present that if they made any noise, they would be beaten. It was like hoodlums robbing an innocent citizen. That Chinese New Year on February 5th, 2000, was the most pitiful New Year for Deng's family. Fellow practitioners continued to provide food and clothes for his family that year and beyond.

In July 2000, when Mr. Deng asked the Pengzhou police to ensure a safe and peaceful practice environment at Tianpeng Square, he was detained for 17 days, and again beaten mercilessly. His teeth were knocked loose.

In January 2001, Mr. Deng again went to Beijing. After he came home, he was detained for two months. In April 2001, less than 10 days after his release, a friend visited him at his home. The visit was reported by township officials Wang Zhihua and Yue Jun, which led to Mr. Deng and his friend's arrest and detention of 25 days. Mr. Deng was released on May 10th. In November 2001, he was reported when he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong in Tanjiawan. This time, he was released after conducting a hunger strike for three days at the police station.

On the evening of July 30th, 2002, the entire Pengzhou City 610 Office arrested several Falun Gong practitioners and forced them to attend a brainwashing session. Mr. Deng, however, fortunately escaped and henceforth became destitute to avoid further persecution.

On the night of April 20th, 2004, Mr. Deng was arrested by staff of the 610 Office and the public security department. He was tortured mercilessly for two days and nights at Aoping Police Station. He was then transferred to an undisclosed location (a room at the top floor of Pengzhou City Electric Power Guesthouse), where he was brutally tortured. He was forced to wear handcuffs and shackles, endure cold water being poured on him, and was viciously beaten. Two officers repeatedly hit his head with a wooden stick. They pushed his head into a bathtub of water. His nose and mouth bled, and two of his teeth fell out from the beating.

On the afternoon of April 27th, Mr. Deng was sent to a detention centre and deprived of sleep for seven days and nights, from April 20th to April 27th, to try to force him to admit fabricated facts regarding his actions, which could be used as "evidence" to sentence him. The team leader of this persecution team was He Zeyun, head of Section 1, Pengzhou City Police Station.

On April 4th, 2005, Mr. Deng was sentenced to five years by Pengzhou City Court. On September 27th, 2005, he was sent to Deyang Prison. On December 31st, 2005, when he was transcribing one of the Falun Gong articles from memory, he was discovered by prisoners Song Wenchao and Bai Jian, who locked him up in a small room, taped his mouth, and mercilessly beat him up. As a result of this torture, Mr. Deng could not walk for over 10 days. he continued to suffer such abuse throughout his prison term.

On September 29th, 2009, he took his child to learn a trade in Pi County, and was again arrested by a Pengzhou 610 Office agent. Mayor Liao Xiaohui of Gexianshan Town, police chief Chen Guomin, and village head Xiao Yikai of Qunbo Village assisted the officer in the arrest. Mr. Deng was held in t he Xinjin County Huaqiao Brainwashing Centre for a month. On the evening of September 10th, city 610 Office personnel instigated police officers with the Pengzhou City public security patrol team to brutally torture him. A patrol member attempted to puncture Mr. Deng's left eye with a bamboo chopstick, but Mr. Deng responded quickly and averted his eye. Although his eye was not hurt, the stick did cut an area of skin near his nostril. The wound was an inch long and continued to bleed.

On October 20th, Liu Pei from team No. 2, who was monitoring Mr. Deng, savagely beat him because he refused to be "transformed." [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] Mr. Deng was released on October 29th. The officers who spoke out against Mr. Deng noted that he was an important figure in the local area and thus he needed to be closely monitored.
