The Mudanjiang Railway Transportation Court recently sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Liansheng to five years in prison, without any legal grounds. The court deliberately did not notify Mr. Zhang's family.

Mr. Zhang was arrested at work on the morning of December 7th, 2010 by the police from the National Security Team of the Mudanjiang Railway Police Department. He was detained at the Aihe Forced Labour Camp in Mudanjiang.

On the morning of the December 29th, 2010, the Mudanjiang Railway Transportation Court held a trial for Mr. Zhang. Two attorneys from Beijing, hired by Mr. Zhang's family, came to the court to defend him, exonerate him, and request that he be released immediately.

However, under the control of the Chinese Communist Party's 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), the court still sentenced Mr. Zhang to five years in prison though they had no legal grounds. The court deliberately did not notify Mr. Zhang's family of the sentencing. When his family made inquiries, neither the court nor the procurator gave them an answer. When his family heard about Mr. Zhang's sentence they came back to the court again, and then the court staff acknowledged it. But they claimed that, “it's OK not to inform the family.”

Mr. Zhang had been persecuted multiple times before. On August 8th, 2004, he was arrested and taken to the Suihua City Brainwashing Centre in Heilongjiang Province by staff of the Yimianpo Railway Bureau. On June 12th, 2008, he was arrested and his home was ransacked by staff from the Mudanjiang Railway Maintenance Section and police from the Mudanjiang Railway Police Department. He was imprisoned at the Mudanjiang Detention Centre.

People involved in the persecution:
Ma Xuebin, Public Prosecutor of the Mudanjiang Railway Procuratorate: 86-453-8826933
Wang Jinlong, Judge of the Mudanjiang Railway Court: 86-13796693706 (Mobile), 86-453-8822048 (Office)
