  • Ms. Ma Yongju Is Persecuted for Her Belief in Falun Gong

    Before she began practising Falun Gong, Ms. Ma Yongju's health was so poor that she didn't have enough strength to walk. Falun Gong improved her health dramatically. In 2000, Ms. Ma went to Beijing to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong, a freedom granted in China's Constitution, but was arrested and sent back to her hometown where she was locked up for 15 days. In 2002, Ms. Ma was sentenced to three years of forced labour for distributing materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. In 2009, she was sent to a forced labour camp for a second time. She was deprived of sleep and forced to stand still for extended times to the point that her leg muscles started to shrink. Warden Yuan Fang instructed inmates to poison Ms. Ma's food, causing her to seriously vomit three times within a day.
  • Ms. Lv Renjuan Sent to a Forced Labour Camp--Her Relatives Beaten After Requesting Her Release

    On June 20th Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lv Renjuan was arrested by police in Longkou City, Shandong Province. On July 5th, she was sentenced to one year of forced labour, and was sent to Wangcun Forced Labour Camp in Zibo City. Her relatives went to the forced labour camp to ask them to release Ms. Lv, but they were unreasonably beaten and detained. They were subsequently released.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Li Ying'e of Shaanxi Province Sent to Forced Labour Camp Again

    The 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) ordered the arrest of Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Li Ying'e and Ms. Liu Qiaomei. Ms. Liu Qiaomei was arrested at home by police on April 25th. Ms. Liu's whereabouts were unknown to her family. Her family later discovered that she was being detained at the Wugong County Detention Centre. She was sentenced to a year of forced labour on June 2nd. Ms. Liu is now at the Shaanxi Forced Labour Camp for Women. There, she is forced to work like a slave, doing heavy manual labour.
  • Persecution at the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre in Chengdu

    Xinjin Brainwashing Centre is not only a place for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to detain persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, but also a place for the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), National Security, and Domestic Security to extort money. A person familiar with the situation said that every time a Falun Gong practitioner is detained, the brainwashing centre demands 10,000 yuan from its supervisor organisation for its expenses. Where does this funding come from? First, government funding. Second, robbing of Falun Gong practitioners' personal assets. Third, extortion from Falun Gong practitioners' workplaces. Fourth, fund-raising by the neighbourhood associations.
  • Retired Military Official Mr. Wu Zhongming Died as a Result of Persecution

    After the communist regime launched the persecution on July 20th, 1999, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wu Zhongming not only had long-term fear while facing threats and harassment from the police, but also experienced great mental torment. He developed a fever and lost consciousness on May 4th, 2004 and was sent to the hospital for emergency care. He became paralysed, and his family had to take care of him. Mr. Wu died on the evening of January 26th, 2011, at the age of 81.
  • Third Arrest of Ms. Peng Dongjun from Tongliang County, Chongqing

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Peng Dongjun, 58, was arrested by four plainclothes police officers at the Anju Township bus station on June 24th. She has since been secretly detained at Tongliang County Detention Centre. Ms. Peng went on a hunger strike to protest her arrest and her physical condition is critical. This is the third time Ms. Peng has been arrested. She was previously imprisoned for four years, during which time she was tortured via various methods, including having her hands cuffed behind her back.
  • Ms. Hu Miaomiao Finally Returns Home After Numerous Ordeals Including Sexual Abuse at Labour Camp; Local 610 Office Continues Harassing Her

    Ms. Hu Miaomiao suffered extensive sexual abuse and torture in Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp. She was due to be released on July 11th, yet 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) attempted to immediately take Ms. Hu from the labour camp to the Yubaodun Brainwashing Centre for one more month. In the end, as a result of Ms. Hu's father and younger brother's strong resistance, the perpetrators had to send Ms. Hu home. The following day, the county 610 Office head Qian Jinli, along with about ten other people, harassed Ms. Hu at home, threatening her and her father.
  • 610 Office Takes Mr. Zheng Fengxiang Directly to a Brainwashing Centre After His Prison Term Ends

    Mr. Zheng Fengxiang should have been released on July 1st, but unexpectedly, guard Zong Mingjun of Gongzhuling Prison conspired with the local 610 Office and Jiangnan Gaoxin Police Station to continue persecuting Mr. Zheng. Mr. Zheng's wife watched him being taken away by the police and didn't even get to talk to him. She sat by the side of the road and burst into tears. Shey only knows that he was taken to the Sishe Welfare Brainwashing Centre. During his four years at Gongzhuling Prison, Mr. Zheng was subjected to various methods of torture. In early 2010, he was seriously mistreated and contracted tuberculosis.
  • Handicapped Practitioner Brutally Tortured

    Ms. Guo Ling was arrested on January 15th, 2009, and later sentenced to a four-year prison term. Her family didn't know her whereabouts until more than a year after she wa incarcerated in the Yunnan Province Second Women's Prison. On June 14th, a prison guard called Ms. Guo's family, asking them to come immediately. Only two family members were allowed to visit her. The next day Ms. Guo's husband and daughter went to the prison. When they saw Ms. Guo, she could not walk without assistance. She was emaciated and weak, and she seemed to be incoherent.
  • Yiyuan County Officers Arrest and Extort Money from Practitioners

    Ms. Jiao Fangyu and Ms. Zhang Xiaorong and Ms. Li Zaihua were arrested while speaking with people about Falun Gong in Yiyuan County on May 16th. The police extorted about 100,000 yuan in value and belongings from Ms. Zhang, and extorted 30,000 yuan in cash from Ms. Li. Ms. Jiao was given a term of one and a half years of forced labour and taken to the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp in Zibo City.
  • Mr. Tian Yongjian Sentenced to Prison, Family Visits Denied Repeatedly

    Mr. Tian Yongjian was secretly sentenced by the local courts and sent to Shandong Province Prison for an eight-year sentence. The court did not inform his family of his trial and refused to give them a copy of the verdict. The prison blacklisted him and, as a result, his family members could not visit him. Over the past three years, Mr. Tian's wife asked many times to visit her husband, a constitutional right given to all family members. However, she was allowed only one visit and was not allowed to speak to him during that visit.
  • Mengyin County Authorities Persecute an Outstanding Teacher in Shandong Province

    On March 4th, 2011, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yi Shuling was arrested and again sentenced to forced labour in Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp, Shandong Province. Over the past 12 years, Ms. Yi Shuling has been arrested several times and tortured by Mengyin County authorities. She was also tortured in the mental health hospital. She has suffered extensive persecution, and, as a result, she lost her job, her husband, and her home. Previously, at the Shandong No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp, Ms. Yi was not allowed to to use the toilet, denied food and water, force-fed, tied up, and hung up. She was tortured nearly to death.
  • Mr. Wang Junqiang, a Respected Technician from Fukang City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region is Subjected to Physical Abuse and Torture

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Juqiang, was reported for having several Falun Gong informational DVDs in his dorm room. Police arrested Mr. Wang and he was sent to the Wujiaqu Forced Labour Camp on October 27th, 2010, for a term of two years. In order to force Mr. Wang to give up his belief, the labour camp guards employed all kinds of torture on him. Once, the guards handcuffed his hands and feet to a wall in a spread eagle position and shocked him with four high-voltage electric batons, causing him to lose consciousness. Several dozen scars from being electrically shocked can still be seen on his body.
  • Ms. Li Guangyan Drugged in Xinjin Brainwashing Centre, Sichuan Province

    On June 21st, police barged into Ms. Li Guangyan's home, arrested her, and took her to the Caiwan Brainwashing Centre. Ms. Li was detained in a room by herself, except for two assistants (hired from the countryside and trained by the centre) who watched her 24 hours a day. Only half an hour after her first meal, she was in excruciating pain. Ms. Li has been arrested more than 10 times since the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, and she was detained in Xinjin Brainwashing Centre before. She knew that her reaction after lunch had to have been caused by drugs in her food and that the brainwashing centre authorities were trying to force her to accept the brainwashing while her mind was not clear.
  • Older Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Tan Cuiying Beaten to Death by Domestic Security Officers in Ningyuan County, Hunan Province

    When Ms. Tan Cuiying went to the Domestic Security Division Office to seek the release of her husband, Ou Yicheng, she was brutally beaten until she passed out. Within three weeks, she died from her injuries on July 18th. On May 13th, police stormed into Mr. Ou Yicheng's home, ransacked it, and arrested him. He was held in the Ningyuan County Detention Centre and was Ms. Tan's sole source of financial support. On June 30th, Ms. Tan went to the Domestic Security Division to request the release of her husband. Officers beat her so brutally that she passed out on the ground. She was incontinent and mentally disordered and could not dress herself or take care of herself.
