They were arrested after demonstrating outside a Chinese government building in the territory three years ago. The case was seen as a key test of judicial independence in the former British colony, now a part of China. Falun Gong is banned in China and its practitioners complain they are subject to sometimes violent persecution, but they are free to practice in Hong Kong. Beijing has labeled Falun Gong [and persecutes it brutally]. In Hong Kong, there are no such restrictions. -
Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal's Statement in Overturning the Conviction of Falun Gong Practitioners

On the morning of May 1, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners in Japan petitioned in front of the Singapore Embassy to Japan. They requested that Singapore stop assisting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) with the persecution of Falun Gong, and took this opportunity to tell people about the withdrawal of a million people from the CCP. -

A summary of the decision said, "The freedom to demonstrate peacefully is a constitutional right." ... The ruling came amid complaints from pro-democracy lawmakers and legal experts that Hong Kong's law has been compromised by Beijing's interference during the past month. -

Well-Being of Hunger Striking Practitioners in Singapore Is a Concern of Falun Gong Practitioners Around the World
2005-05-04Two Falun Gong practitioners in Singapore, Ms. Ng Chye Huay and Ms. Cheng Lujin, are presently on hunger strike in Changyi Woman's Prison to protest the unjust court sentences by the Singapore authorities against them. According to the Strait Times' report, a prison spokesman said that refusing to eat was an offence under the Prisons Act. If found guilty, they could be placed in a punishment cell or given a written warning. They will be placed on a glucose drip should their health be in danger. Falun Gong practitioners from across the world are extremely concerned about the situation and have successively gone to Singapore Embassies in different countries to appeal on behalf of the two practitioners. -

Two women were jailed after passing out fliers and video CD's. Singapore became the first country outside of China to take such legal action against Falun Gong. -
