A family of four in Chaling County, Hunan Province has experienced brutal persecution since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched its persecution of Falun Gong in July of 1999. The husband has passed away and the wife and two surviving daughters have been repeatedly imprisoned over the past eight years.

Liu Ying'e was in the terminal stage of prostate cancer and was told by his doctor that there was not much time left in his life. However, after he began to practise Falun Gong in March 1999, he gradually recovered. Unfortunately, four months later, the CCP regime launched a political campaign to eradicate Falun Gong and his loved ones were arrested and imprisoned. He was also harassed by the local 610 Office1 after his wife and oldest daughter were arrested. Under such high pressure, he gave up his Falun Gong practice and his cancer returned. Under these conditions, the authorities still abducted another daughter, who was taking care of him, to a brainwashing centre. Mr. Liu Ying'e was left in desperate circumstances and passed away.

His wife, Liu Yongfen, a retired employee of Xiangdong Iron Mine of Chaling County, Hunan Province, went to Beijing with her daughter Liu Xueqin to appeal for Falun Gong in December 2000. As a result, they were brought back to their hometown. Liu Yongfen was put into a detention centre, while her daughter Liu Xueqin was turned over to the Zhuzhou City police. In December 2000, Liu Yongfen was sentenced to four years of imprisonment for posting informational materials, and served the term in the Hunan Provincial Women's Prison. In less than six months after she was released in December 2004, she was arrested again and was sentenced to two years of forced labour in May 2005. Presently, she is still detained in Baimalong Forced Labour Camp of Hunan Province.

Liu Chunqin, the oldest daughter of Liu Ying'e and Liu Yongfen, and an employee of Rolling Mill of Hengyang City, Hunan Province, was detained for eight months after December 2000 for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. In September 2002, she was sentenced to four years of imprisonment and served the term in the same prison as her mother. In November 2006, she was put into a forced labour camp for one year.

Liu Xueqin, the youngest daughter of the couple, worked for the Commercial Bank of Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. She was put in custody for two weeks in December 2000, and sentenced to thirteen months of forced labour in April 2005. From April 2007 until the present, she has been confined in the Baimalong Forced Labour Camp.

A happy family was devastated just because they wanted to live according to the standards of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance". Presently, Liu Yongfen's employer still withholds her retirement pension. Liu Xueqin's husband has been laid off and can hardly support their four-year-old daughter.
