Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Niu Yanhong from Jilin City, Jilin Province, was arrested and secretly sentenced. Not long ago she was taken to the Heizuizi Women's Prison in Changchun City, where she continues to be persecuted. Ms. Niu Yanhong is 33 years old, and her entire family depends on her working wages to maintain a living. Her over 60-year-old mother is seeking justice for her daughter and appealing for people's attention.
Below is Ms. Niu Yanhong's mother's account of the persecution Ms. Niu was subjected to this time.
In the afternoon on July 12th, 2008, when Ms. Niu Yanhong went to visit a fellow practitioner's home, she was arrested by police officers waiting near that practitioner's home. These officers were from the Jilin City Hadawan Local Police Station and included director Wang Hui, policeman Jing Chunlei, and three or four other policemen. They handcuffed Ms. Niu, beat her mercilessly, and wiped irritating hot spices on her eyes and nose.
She was threatened and forcibly taken back to her home, where five or six police rushed in to confiscate the family's property. I tried to stop them, and policeman Jing Chunlei handcuffed me, claiming that I was hindering official business. Several other policemen rushed into Ms. Niu's room and took away a laptop, a printer, a laser printer, three mobile phones, Falun Gong materials, and other items with a total value of more than 10,000 yuan1.
At 6:00 p.m. that evening, the police took me; my daughter, Ms. Niu Yanhong; and my husband to the Hadawan Local Police Station. After 9:00 p.m., they released me and my husband. My daughter was taken to the Jilin Municipal Detention Centre.
The next day, I went to the Hadawan Local Police Station to ask for my daughter's release. Police officer Wang Hui (male) said, "We are only in charge of making arrests; the case has been handed over to the Changyi District Police Department." I went to the Changyi District Police Department, where a person named Wang Lijun gave me an written notice of arrest and told me the case had been transferred to the Changyi District Court. After we had gone to the Changyi District Court many times, Judge Yang Xiaojing (female) told us to go home and wait.
I can't remember how many times we went, but we were never allowed to see my daughter. During my daughter's imprisonment of more than seven months, we were never allowed to see her, but we were asked to give money. Our family is in a very difficult financial situation, and each time we can only submit 100 or 200 yuan. However, 100 grams of rice cost 20 yuan. Desperate, we went to the court to look for Judge Yang Xiaojing once again. Her attitude was very bad, and she told us not to come anymore and claimed that my daughter's case had already been passed on to the Municipal Intermediate Court.
We went to the Intermediate Court, and Judge Chen Yu told us, "Your daughter has been sentenced to four years of imprisonment." We were very surprised and wondered why they hadn't informed us, her family members. Chen Yu said, "The Intermediate Court was just upholding the original sentence; if you have any arguments, you must go to the Changyi District Court."
We went to Changyi District Court every day. On February 16th, 2009, I called Yang Xiaojing and asked her, "Where have you taken my daughter? Why we have we not been allowed to see her for such a long time?" This time Yang Xiaojing said, "Come and get the written judgement, and I'll let you see her."
My daughter was taken to the Heizuizi Women's Prison in Changchun City where Falun Gong practitioners are being persecuted very brutally.
My husband and I are both over 60 years old and are no longer able to work. We depend solely on our daughter to support the family. Our son-in-law cannot focus enough to do his job ever since my daughter's arrest. Our nine-year-old grandson misses his mother every day, and our entire family is miserable. We hope that kind people and Falun Gong practitioners worldwide can help rescue my daughter and all the practitioners still imprisoned.
