  • Ms. Zheng Zhixian and Daughter Arrested

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Zhixian is in her sixties. On March 26th, 2010, she was arrested by police officers while she put up banners to inform the public about the persecution of Falun Gong. Previously in May 2009, Ms. Zheng Zhixian and her husband were at a market stand when police arrested and carried her to the car, then took her to a brainwashing centre, where she was detained for 53 days. The head of the brainwashing centre extorted 1,000 yuan from her family, claiming expenses for her meals, then released her. After she returned home, Ms. Zheng was extremely weak. Her body trembled while walking since she had no strength. One of her hands is paralysed, so she cannot look after herself.
  • Account of Persecution Endured by Two Villagers

    On March 9th, 2010, Ms. Chen Hongli and Ms. Zhang Guilan were arrested at a checkpoint on the Luojiatun Township Highway. Ms. Chen and Ms. Zhang were on a bus when the police stopped their bus. They were asked to show their identification, their personal belongings were searched without any warrant, and they were arrested after the police found Falun Gong related materials in their possession. They were taken to the Qianxi County Detention Centre, where they were held for 15 days. For the past ten years, Ms. Zhang and Ms. Chen have been repeatedly arrested, detained in forced labour camps and brainwashing centres, heavily fined, and had their homes searched and ransacked many times.
  • Arrest of a Practitioner Repentant for His Behaviour Prior to Cultivating

    Mr. Bai Jingzhi was very well known in the Hongshi Forestry Bureau of Huadian City, Jilin Province. He was known as a scoundrel in his area. His return to being a better person was filled with hardship and sadness. There is a Chinese saying, "A repentant libertine is more precious than gold." However, the government under the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has arrested him for his newfound beliefs. On January 11th, 2010, Mr. Bai and other practitioners went to Erdaodianzi Town of Huadian City to distribute Falun Gong information and were arrested. Mr. Bai was taken to the Huadian City Detention Centre.
  • Examples of Brutal Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Panjin Prison, Liaoning Province

    On April 4th, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Litao refused to participate in the forced labour. Guards electrically shocked Mr. Liu with more than ten electric batons. Also the prison doctor inserted two electric needles of 220 volts into Mr. Liu's hands, and another needle into his forehead. Sparks flashed in Mr. Liu's forehead due to the electric current. On March 31st, 2009, Mr. Liu Litao refused to do extra hours of forced labour. Guards used electric batons of high voltage--800, 000 volts--to shock his cheeks for more than 40 minutes. His cheeks were swollen, charred, and turned dark purple.
  • The Maltreatment of Mr. Yang Weihua Before His Death

    Mr. Yang Weihua, 35, started to practise Falun Gong in July 1996. After the persecution began he was sent to Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp where he suffered inhuman torture. While detained there, he was beaten and shocked with electric batons by the guards and criminals in the camp. They did not allow him to sleep for a long period of time, and he was forced to work for over 16 hours a day. After he was released, he did not recover from the torture he experienced and was on the verge of death. Mr. Yang passed away on June 5th, 2008.
  • Ms. Xiao Silan Sentenced to Three Years of Forced Labour

    Ms. Xiao Silan was sentenced to three years of forced labour on March 18th, 2010 for refusing to give up her belief in Falun Gong. Before her arrest, local practitioner Mr. Guo Huisheng was arrested for phoning the police to rescue Ms. Xiao Silan. He was brutally beaten and died as a result of the severe injuries caused by the beating.
  • Ms. Cui Yinxia Arrested Again

    Ms. Cui Yinxia, a schoolteacher in Renqiu City, Hebei Province, was arrested and subsequently detained on March 31st, 2010, for her belief in Falun Gong. She was held in a detention centre in August 2008, and Renqiu Court officials sentenced her to five years of imprisonment. She went on a hunger strike that lasted more than 70 days. Detention centre officials told her family to take her home only when she was on the brink of death.
  • Prison Guard Reveals Death Quotas in Chinese Prisons

    Wafangdian Prison guards said, "Every year the prison sets a quota on the number of allowed deaths, which means we are not accountable as long as the number of prisoners that die is within the quota." Falun Gong practitioner Lu Guozan's ribs were cracked by the inmates' brutal beatings, but the injuries were left untreated. Liu Fangxu was tortured until he fell unconscious. Yang Guoqian, whose toes had been broken by a prison guard, was bloodied all over his body because he tried to get to the toilet without being escorted by a guard. Practitioner Yang Guoqian was detained in the "Strict Control Room" for at least two months to conceal his serious condition.
  • Ou Weizhi and Zou Jixiu Tried in Nongken Court in Mudanjiang

    Ms. Ou Weizhi and Ms. Zou Jixiu were arrested and put on trial on March 22nd, 2010, because they practise Falun Gong. Friends of Ms. Ou Weizhi found her an attorney in Beijing, and Ms. Zou Jixiu's family found her one too. Personnel from the procuratorial department lied in court. The judges tried to hinder the attorneys from speaking with the excuse that the government had already determined the nature of Falun Gong, but the attorneys protested.
  • Elderly Mr. Qi Fengming Severely Abused in Daqing Prison, Heilongjiang Province

    The 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province manipulated the judicial system and sentenced Mr. Qi Fengming, 69 years old, to five years in prison in 2008 for distributing Falun Gong materials. He was transferred to the Daqing Prison for continued persecution on January 6th, 2009. On several occasions, the prison guards forced him to stand outside on freezing winter days when the temperature was about -30 degrees Celcius. They arbitrarily beat him on several occasions also burned his clothes.
  • 56-Year-Old Li Chuanlan of Yushu, Jilin, Describes Her Torture Experience

    Fellow Falun Gong practitioner Liu Shuyan and I went to distribute Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution on April 29th, 2009. On our way home we were arrested by police. We were detained in Yushu Detention Centre. I started a hunger strike on June 5th to protest my detention. I became very weak after ten days and they took me to the hospital and injected me with an unknown drug. My abdomen then became very bloated, and my mouth severely cracked and blistered. I heard continuous ringing in my ears and I couldn't see. They also deceived our families by telling them that they would let us go if they got their signatures. Once they got the signatures however, we were again put into detention.
  • After Seven Years of Imprisonment, Ms. Chen Shulan Taken to a Brainwashing Centre

    Ms. Chen Shulan was arrested by officers from the Changping District Police Department on September 16th, 2002, and was sentenced to seven and a half years. She was held at the Beijing Women's Prison until her release on March 17th, 2010, when she was picked up again and taken to the Changping District Brainwashing Centre.
  • Ms. Tang Xuzhen, a Retired Associate Professor from Luzhou Medical Institute, Secretly Sentenced

    73-year-old Ms. Tang Xuzhen, a Falun Gong practitioner from Sichuan Province who is a retired associate professor from the Luzhou Medical Institute, was sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment after being detained for eight months at Naxi Detention Centre in Luzhou City. She was sent to Jianyang Prison on February 8th, 2010.
  • Seven Years in Prison: The Persecution of Mr. Luo Yingping from Xiangtan City, Hunan Province

    The son of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Luo Yingping called a taxi on his way to pick up his father who was supposed to be released from Wangling Prison, several hundred kilometres away on March 10th, 2010. However, the prison officials refused to release Mr. Luo. They claimed that they could not let Mr. Luo go until the local 610 Office officials came. The son hadn't seen his father for seven years. When he saw his balding father behind the bars, his eyes were full of tears. When the taxi driver heard that the father was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment merely because he was a Falun Gong practitioner, he was shocked and said, "This communist party is so brutal," and he wiped tears from his eyes.
  • Practitioner Wang Yongbin from Shanghai City Detained; Previously Sentenced to Forced Labour Twice

    Mr. Wang Yongbin, 53 years old, is a farmer from Situan Village, Fengxian District in Shanghai City. He started practising Falun Gong in 1998. On the morning of March 24th, officials from the Shanghai City Fengxian District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and policemen from Pingan Police Department broke into his home and ransacked it. They arrested Wang Yongbin and detained him at Fengxian District Detention Centre. After the persecution against Falun Gong started on July 20th, 1999, Wang Yongbin was arrested by police in 2000. He was sentenced to two years in a forced labour camp and endured inhumane torture. He was finally released in 2002.
