Mr. Liu Qingtao Detained Again after Serving Five Years in Prison and Two More Years in a Labour Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Qingtao was intercepted and arrested by four plainclothes policemen as he drove home from his night shift work on July 6th, 2012. Police confiscated his car as an accessory to a crime. Mr. Liu is being detained in the Daheishan Detention Centre. His wife, 83-year-old mother, and son are extremely upset. Previously, Mr. Liu went to Beijing to report the truth about Falun Gong. He was arrested by police and detained in the Jinzhou Detention Centre for one year. Later on, he was sentenced to five years in prison and sent to the Huazi Prison in Liaoning Province, where he was inhumanly tortured. -
Ms. Zhang Deyan Detained for Eight Months, Her Family Members Call for Help
2013-01-11Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Deyan was arrested at home on April 15th, 2012, by officers deployed from the police stations in Fushun City. She was detained in Nangou Detention Centre for about eight months. The Communist regime officials denied Ms. Zhang's family members their right to visit her. Her family has no way of knowing what is being done to her inside the detention centre. Twenty practitioners were arrested on the same day in the area around Xinbin. Four of them were sentenced to prison, and five to forced labour. -
Retired Teacher Arrested in Beijing, Causing Her Husband to Fall into a Coma
2013-01-11On November 2nd, 2012, police broke into 63-year-old Ms. Fang Yunbao's home and arrested her. When her husband returned home to find it a mess and his wife gone, he immediately fainted and fell unconscious. The police also confiscated a laptop, Falun Gong items and other personal belongings. Ms. Fang's son and daughter went to the Haidian Detention Centre to request her release, but their request was rejected. Previously, in 2001, police arrested Ms. Fang and sent her to the notorious Hewan Labour Camp in Wuhan for one and a half years. -
Outstanding Teacher Mr. Luo Wenbin Persecuted in Nanchang Prison's Rigorous Control Unit
2013-01-11Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Luo Wenbin was taken into custody after being caught writing “Falun Gong Is Good” on a light pole on September 17th, 2009. He was thrown into prison for seven years. He is currently being persecuted in the rigorous control unit in Nanchang Prison. The rigorous control unit of Nanchang Prison is a horrible den. The unit head openly told the guards, “If you don't know how to beat up people, you are not worth your pay.” In order to please the unit head the guards persecute Falun Gong practitioners without any restraint. -
Mr. Yang Zhixiong's Whereabouts Unknown After His Arrest in Beijing
2013-01-11Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Zhixiong, 48, was arrested on November 3rd, 2012, at home. His whereabouts are still unknown to his family even after many inquiries. Mr. Yang and his wife have both been repeatedly arrested and detained. In 2003, Mr. Yang was sentenced to a four-year prison term for practising Falun Gong and incarcerated in Jidong Prison in Tangshan City. -
Lies and Violence Used by Police Officials in Jiamusi City
2013-01-04Jiamusi City saw a shocking number of violent arrests on September 10th, 2012: 40 to 50 plainclothes police officers drove in disguised police vehicles, broke into three homes, arrested 15 people in Jiamusi City, and confiscated their belongings, all without following any legal procedures. Those practitioners arrested were held in police stations. No oral or written notice was given to any family member. Ten Falun Gong practitioners were transferred to the Jiamusi City Detention Centre. Later, they were transferred to the Heilongjiang Provincial Women's Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp in Harbin for a term of two years each. -
Mr. Qiao Jianjun Brought to Trial after Being Detained for Four Months
2013-01-04On November 20th, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qian Jianjun appeared in front of his family, wearing handcuffs and shackles, after being detained for four months in Wenshui Detention Centre. He stood in court, clearly emaciated as a result of extended ill-treatment. His face was lined, his eyes lifeless, and his voice hoarse. In order to reassure his family and relatives, he turned and smiled at them from time to time. However, his smiles looked very tentative. No one knew how he had been tortured. Some of his family members sobbed during the entire proceedings. -
Guangdong Province Practitioner Li Shengyu Sentenced to Five Years
2013-01-04Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Shengyu was arrested by police in 2011. They failed to arrest Mr. Li’s wife, Ye Henglian. The incident forced Ms. Ye to leave home for an extended time in order to avoid police harassment. In a secret trial in March 2012, Mr. Li was sentenced to five years and subsequently transferred to Yangjiang Prison. When Mr. Li’s daughter and two sisters finally saw him, Mr. Li was very emaciated and weak, and he had to walk by holding onto the wall to keep from falling. -
Ms. Xia Haizhen and Mr. Luo Jiaolong from Shanghai Face Unjust Court Hearing
2013-01-04Ms. Xia Haizhen and Mr. Luo Jiaolong, Falun Gong practitioners from Shanghai, have been imprisoned for over six months. The Baoshan District Court deceived them in order to get evidence and scheduled a hearing for November 28th. The court attempted to try them secretly on October 11th. Their families learned on October 10th, that the hearing was scheduled for the next day. The hearing was postponed after their families presented reasonable arguments in their favour. The court also created many difficulties for the defending attorneys. -
Owner of Painting and Calligraphy Store in Lanzhou Arrested, Store Contents Confiscated
2013-01-04On October 27th, Mr. He Jianzhong, a Falun Gong practitioner from Lanzhou, was arrested at his painting and calligraphy store by police. The police took a bank deposit and cash amounting to over 10,000 yuan, and clients' calligraphy and paintings. These items still haven't been returned. Mr. He is locked up at the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre. His family was denied visitation rights. -
Still No Justice for Outstanding Teacher Who Died in Police Custody
2013-01-04Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Fengxia was a teacher in Daxingan Ridge, Heilongjiang Province. She was arrested on August 5th, 2010, after hiring a lawyer to defend her brother Mr. Li Fengfei, who had been unjustly arrested and detained because he was a Falun Gong practitioner. Ms. Li's family went to the detention centre several times to visit her but were not allowed. Ms. Li died in police custody on April 28th, 2011, at the age of 54, after eight months of detention. The Alihe Police have still not provided an explanation for her death, nor have they released Ms. Li's body to her family. -
Ms. Li Li Unjustly Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for Inviting People to Observe a Court Procedure
2013-01-04Ms. Li Li and her husband Mr. Wang Huanzhong were arrested on July 24th, 2012 by police, as they passed out letters inviting local people to attend a court hearing on the case of arrested Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Wang Guangwei. Ms. Li's husband was subsequently given a one-year forced labour term, and she herself was sentenced to four years of imprisonment. Ms. Li appealed the verdict. -
Highly Regarded College Teacher Mr. Shen Xuewu Taken into Custody for the Fourth Time
2013-01-04Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Shen Xuewu was previously unjustly sentenced to three years in prison and has been recently arrested again by police. This is the fourth time that Mr. Shen has been arrested. His current whereabouts are unknown. Previously, in Fanjiatai Prison he was subjected to brutal physical abuse and torture. He was placed in a solitary cell where guards handcuffed his hands behind his back, and put shackles on his feet. Mr. Shen became disabled as a result of beatings, and walked with a limp, but the guards still forced him to do hard labour—pulling bricks. -
Accounts of Former Guangdong TV Executive and Three Other Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted for Their Beliefs
2013-01-04Three Falun Gong practitioners were arrested and sent to Tangang Brainwashing Centre in Guangzhou on November 4th. They included Mr. Chen Changrui, former deputy director of the Guangdong TV Chief Editor’s Office, Ms. Peng Lin, an international trading official, and Ms. Gao Suming. In addition, 62-year-old Ms. Jin Jianjun and another female practitioner were also arrested and detained at an unknown location. Previously, Mr. Chen was arrested and held in a forced labour camp for practising Falun Gong. -
Longkou Court Officials in Shandong Province Unjustly Sentence Five Falun Gong Practitioners
2013-01-04We recently learned that five practitioners from Longkou City who were arrested on April 11th were unjustly sentenced to 4-9 years of imprisonment bythe Longkou Court. The practitioners were arrested, detained, and sentenced for making Shen Yun Performing Arts CD cases. The highly acclaimed world-renowned show promotes classical Chinese culture. They were detained for nearly eight months before the trial. Their families and supporters were shocked at the news.
