  • Three Older Women Die as a Result of Persecution

    Ms. Sun Xianfen, 65 years old, was a retired teacher. Practising Falun Gong had restored her to health. After the persecution began, her home was ransacked twice in 2001 and 2002. On May 23rd, 2003 Ms. Sun was arrested by police. She was detained in a detention centre in Anlu City. During her detention she was given food infested with worms. She went on a hunger strike for three days and a guard slapped her face to punish her for her hunger strike. Because she would not write statements to denounce Falun Gong, she was not allowed to sleep. She was taken home on June 23rd, 2003. In 2005 police went to her home and forced her to write statements denouncing Falun Gong. On November 23rd, 2009, she passed away in despair.
  • Lawyers Plead Not Guilty on Behalf of Seven Falun Gong Practitioners in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province

    Bayuquan District Court in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, brought seven Falun Gong practitioners to trial on March 23rd, 2010. Their lawyers pleaded not guilty on their behalf. Over the next several days the families asked the court to release their detained relatives. The judges said that, although the lawyers had entered a plea of not guilty for each practitioner, the courts had to do things their way and had to press charges. They also said that they had no intention of releasing any Falun Gong practitioners.
  • Mr. Zhao Shuaiqing, Scheduled to Be Released from Prison Two Years Ago, Is Missing

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Shuaiqing was a former office director at the Zhuzhou City Financial and Political Bureau, Hunan Province. After graduating college with honours, he began his career at the Zhuzhou City Financial and Political Bureau. He was arrested and beaten multiple times. He was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in May 2001. Currently, his whereabouts are unknown. He was supposed to be released in March 2008. However, it is now March 30th, 2010 and his family and friends still have not heard from him.
  • Mr. Wang Zhi Sentenced, Mother Continues To Appeal

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Zhi is a Falun Gong in Heilongjiang Province. After being sentenced to 7 years by a Jidong County Court, he has been sent to Mudanjiang City Prison. His mother has been consistently appealing for him. On June 3rd, 2008, police arrested Mr. Wang. Police officers used plastic bottles to beat Mr. Wang on the face, neck and head. They also used electric batons to shock sensitive parts of his body, tying him up with ropes. Mr. Wang Zhi's mother went to the Jixi Domestic Security Division many times requesting to see her son, but was refused.
  • Ms. Shang Xiaoli and Her Son Xie Yu from Dalian City Given Prison Terms

    Mr. Xie Yu and his mother, Ms. Shang Xiaoli were given three-year prison terms. Shahekou District Court officials covertly announced the verdict on March 31st, 2010, with no one present observing the court proceedings. Court officials didn't inform the two practitioners' families of the upcoming proceedings until that same morning, so their family members were unable to arrive at the court in time to attend the court session. Ms. Shang strongly protested, asserting she had done nothing wrong. The judge surnamed Li responded that she could appeal her case to the intermediate court in ten days.
  • Villager from Hebei Province: "It's Hard to Be a Good Person Under the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) "

    Wang Cuiyan served one year and one month in a forced labour camp because she practised Falun Gong and conducted herself based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. After her release from the forced labour camp, her family did not allow her to stay at home, for fear that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) would harass them again. Wang Cuiyan had to live elsewhere. Under such circumstances, she could not help but lament, "Why is it so hard to be a good person living in a society governed by the CCP?"
  • Practitioner Ms. Sun Li Arrested; Her Family Detained When Looking for Her

    Local police arrested Ms. Sun Li from a hotel room. The arrest took place while she was running errands in the Nancha District, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. Her family went to look for her but was detained and had funds extorted from them. During the arrest several police officers dragged her downstairs to a waiting police car. She shouted, "Falun Gong is good" and she began explaining Falun Gong and exposing the Communist Party's crimes to the passersby. Ms. Sun held onto the car door, and they shoved her to the ground. Officer Zhao Yuanxin knelt on her chest and almost suffocated her. Another officer arrived, and the two carried her into the car. They kept kneeling on her chest so she could not move.
  • Ms. Feng Lianxia Endures Ten Years of Persecution

    Ms. Feng Lianxia, 50, was subjected to ten years of abuse under the persecution. In 2003, police arrested her again and sent her to Daqing City Detention Centre. Ms. Feng refused to tell police her name and began a persecution protest hunger strike. Guards ordered prisoners to brutally beat her. They handcuffed her hands behind her back, beat her face, pulled her hair, and snapped her face with a towel. They tortured her like that for more than four hours, beating her face black and blue, and making her hurt everywhere. She was detained there for almost a month and was then sent to Harbin City Women's Rehabilitation Centre (a forced labour camp), where officials refused to accept her due to her poor health. She was taken back to the detention centre, where she was held for over ten days, and then released.
  • Ms. Zheng Zhixian and Daughter Arrested

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Zhixian is in her sixties. On March 26th, 2010, she was arrested by police officers while she put up banners to inform the public about the persecution of Falun Gong. Previously in May 2009, Ms. Zheng Zhixian and her husband were at a market stand when police arrested and carried her to the car, then took her to a brainwashing centre, where she was detained for 53 days. The head of the brainwashing centre extorted 1,000 yuan from her family, claiming expenses for her meals, then released her. After she returned home, Ms. Zheng was extremely weak. Her body trembled while walking since she had no strength. One of her hands is paralysed, so she cannot look after herself.
  • Account of Persecution Endured by Two Villagers

    On March 9th, 2010, Ms. Chen Hongli and Ms. Zhang Guilan were arrested at a checkpoint on the Luojiatun Township Highway. Ms. Chen and Ms. Zhang were on a bus when the police stopped their bus. They were asked to show their identification, their personal belongings were searched without any warrant, and they were arrested after the police found Falun Gong related materials in their possession. They were taken to the Qianxi County Detention Centre, where they were held for 15 days. For the past ten years, Ms. Zhang and Ms. Chen have been repeatedly arrested, detained in forced labour camps and brainwashing centres, heavily fined, and had their homes searched and ransacked many times.
  • Arrest of a Practitioner Repentant for His Behaviour Prior to Cultivating

    Mr. Bai Jingzhi was very well known in the Hongshi Forestry Bureau of Huadian City, Jilin Province. He was known as a scoundrel in his area. His return to being a better person was filled with hardship and sadness. There is a Chinese saying, "A repentant libertine is more precious than gold." However, the government under the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has arrested him for his newfound beliefs. On January 11th, 2010, Mr. Bai and other practitioners went to Erdaodianzi Town of Huadian City to distribute Falun Gong information and were arrested. Mr. Bai was taken to the Huadian City Detention Centre.
  • Examples of Brutal Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Panjin Prison, Liaoning Province

    On April 4th, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Litao refused to participate in the forced labour. Guards electrically shocked Mr. Liu with more than ten electric batons. Also the prison doctor inserted two electric needles of 220 volts into Mr. Liu's hands, and another needle into his forehead. Sparks flashed in Mr. Liu's forehead due to the electric current. On March 31st, 2009, Mr. Liu Litao refused to do extra hours of forced labour. Guards used electric batons of high voltage--800, 000 volts--to shock his cheeks for more than 40 minutes. His cheeks were swollen, charred, and turned dark purple.
  • The Maltreatment of Mr. Yang Weihua Before His Death

    Mr. Yang Weihua, 35, started to practise Falun Gong in July 1996. After the persecution began he was sent to Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp where he suffered inhuman torture. While detained there, he was beaten and shocked with electric batons by the guards and criminals in the camp. They did not allow him to sleep for a long period of time, and he was forced to work for over 16 hours a day. After he was released, he did not recover from the torture he experienced and was on the verge of death. Mr. Yang passed away on June 5th, 2008.
  • Ms. Xiao Silan Sentenced to Three Years of Forced Labour

    Ms. Xiao Silan was sentenced to three years of forced labour on March 18th, 2010 for refusing to give up her belief in Falun Gong. Before her arrest, local practitioner Mr. Guo Huisheng was arrested for phoning the police to rescue Ms. Xiao Silan. He was brutally beaten and died as a result of the severe injuries caused by the beating.
  • Ms. Cui Yinxia Arrested Again

    Ms. Cui Yinxia, a schoolteacher in Renqiu City, Hebei Province, was arrested and subsequently detained on March 31st, 2010, for her belief in Falun Gong. She was held in a detention centre in August 2008, and Renqiu Court officials sentenced her to five years of imprisonment. She went on a hunger strike that lasted more than 70 days. Detention centre officials told her family to take her home only when she was on the brink of death.
