Three Practitioners from Huanggang City, Hubei Province Arrested

Ms. Tong Jinxian, Mr. Xiao Jinhua, and Ms. Zheng Caixia from Huanggang City, Hubei Province were arrested by police on July 19th. The police also ransacked Ms. Tong's home, confiscating a computer, a printer, and other personal property. Ms. Tong has been subjected to detention numerous times prior to this arrest. The police also extorted money from her. The three practitioners are detained in the Huanggang City No. 2 Detention Centre. Their families were forced to pay living expenses for them when they went to visit them at the detention centre. -
Ms. Hong Youfeng from Funing County, Jiangsu Province Sentenced
2010-08-07On January 17th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Hong Youfeng was reported to authorities and arrested by police because she was talking to people about the truth behind the persecution of Falun Gong and gave a Falun Gong DVD to a passerby. They locked up Ms. Hong at a hotel. She was deprived of sleep for four days, and continuously interrogated and forced into giving a so-called confession. She was then sent to Funing Detention Centre for a term of over four months. The Funing Court and legal legislators tried Ms. Hong in court on May 19th without any legal evidence. She was sentenced to three years and six months in prison on July 2nd. Her attorney entered an innocent plea for her and asked the court to release her. -
Mr. Zhang Jinsheng Arrested in Hebei Province
2010-08-06Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Jinsheng was arrested at his home on July 21st, 2010, and taken to the Heshui City Brainwashing Centre. Both of his daughters were out of town working and didn't know he had been arrested and locked up at the brainwashing centre. Mr. Zhang's wife Fang Xinzhi, who was also a practitioner, died on November 21st, 2007, while Mr. Zhang was detained at a forced labour camp. She had served three years in a forced labour camp, but was arrested again on May 12th, 2006. Officers from the Zhengkou Town Police Station twisted her wrist so severely that the bones fractured. -
Court Hearings Delayed to Prevent Beijing Defence Lawyers from Attending
2010-08-06Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Liyu was arrested when she returned to her hometown and was seen talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang was taken to Yongtai County Detention Centre, and was to await a court hearing at the Yongtai County Court in Fuzhou City. When officials from the court found out that Ms. Zhang's family had hired a lawyer from Beijing, Yan Xingnuan, chief judge of Yongtai County Court, and another court official forcibly told Ms. Zhang's family to replace the Beijing lawyer with a local lawyer. -
Instructor at Shanghai Jiaotong University Sentenced to Four Year Prison Term
2010-08-05On July 6th, 2010, the Shanghai Baoshan Court sentenced Mr. Guo Xiaojun, a Falun Gong practitioner and former instructor at Shanghai Jiaotong University, to four years in prison. Prior to the sentencing, Mr. Guo had been detained for over six months. This is his second imprisonment, as he was imprisoned for five years in the infamous Tilanqiao Prison beginning in August 2000. Before the trial, presiding judge Xu Minfang forbade the defence lawyer to defend Falun Gong practitioners. The Beijing lawyer informed the court that prosecuting practitioners as criminals was a waste of state resources. In court, Mr. Guo Xiaojun claimed his innocence. He also exposed the brutal interrogation he suffered at the hands of the Shanghai Baoshan Police Bureau and Baoshan Detention Centre. -
Upright Defence of Falun Gong Practitioners Upsets Judges During a Show Trial in Changde City Court
2010-08-05Wuling District Court (located in Changde City, Hunan Province) held show trial on June 11th, 2010, against several Falun Gong practitioners. When the defence attorney declared that the practitioners were innocent, the judges appeared very nervous. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Haijun said in court, "By practising the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, I am being a conscientious member of society who abides by the law. I am also striving to be a kinder person with a higher moral standard. How can this be unlawful? How can this be a crime?" The judges were visibly stunned and in a panic. -
A Dental Clinic Administrator in Wuhan Arrested and Taken to a Brainwashing Centre
2010-08-04Wuchang Boya Western Medicine Dental Clinic was seized and demolished by China Ship Research and Design Centre (No. 701 Institution), causing huge economic losses. All the medical equipment and medications inside the building were buried, resulting in an economic loss of over 200,000 yuan. Ms. Wang Xiaoming, the clinic administrator, filed a lawsuit against the No. 701 Institution. However, Shouyilu Police Station and the 701 Institution worked together to apprehend her and have her admitted to a brainwashing centre just because Ms. Wang practises Falun Gong. -
Practitioners Mr. Luo Changyong and Ms. Chen Chihui Sentenced in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province
2010-08-04On July 15th, 2010, the Longquanqi District Court in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province sentenced Mr. Luo Changyong to five years in prison, and Ms. Chen Chihui to three-and-a-half-years in prison. Police arrested the two practitioners while they were travelling through Huangtu Town on September 20th, 2009. The practitioners were tortured during their subsequent detention. Mr. Luo told the court that the photos used by the prosecutors were obtained through torture interrogation. Officers first tried to make the practitioners admit to making the Falun Gong banners and stickers in Huangtu Town. After they denied this, the officers deprived them of any sleep for five days. -
Practitioner Hu Biao Refutes the Absurd Charges Levelled Against Him
2010-08-03Mr. Hu Biao, 64, is from Guizhou Province. Police arrested him on March 30th, 2009. Gulin County Court officials tried him on November 19th that year. Mr. Hu is currently imprisoned at the Gulin County Detention Centre. Mr. Hu states, "During my trial, my two lawyers and I requested that the public prosecutor present any legal evidence he could find to substantiate his allegation that Falun Gong is a cult. He couldn’t produce anything. The truth is that no Chinese law has ever prohibited the cultivation of Falun Gong, or ever named Falun Gong a cult. Our practice of Falun Gong is in full compliance with the law. The crime the court charged me with is simply a fabrication, and is itself a form of persecution." -
Fuzhou Court Prevents Ms. Zhang's Family from Hiring a Lawyer from Beijing
2010-08-02Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Liyu was arrested by police from the Baiyun Village Police Station on April 5th, 2010 while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. She is currently detained in the Yongtai County Detention Centre, and is about to be put on trial. The court in Yongtain County has used various tactics to stop her family members from hiring a defence counsel from Beijing. The judge said, "We have a regulation here that no one is allowed to hire lawyers from elsewhere; you can only hire a local lawyer." -
Four Practitioners Arrested by the 610 Office of Laiyang in Shandong Province for Helping Ms. Liu Zhimei Recover from Mental Collapse Due to Persecution
2010-08-01On April 16th, 2010, police arrested Ms. Liu Zhimei, a former student at Tsinghua University who suffered a mental collapse as a result of persecution during her imprisonment. They also arrested the four practitioners, including Ms. Gao Chunhong, who were taking care of Ms. Liu. Additionally, Ms. Gao's house was ransacked, and many private belongings were taken away. -
Kindhearted Ms. Sun Arrested
2010-08-01On March 17th, 2010, Ms. Ma was arrested by police and sentenced to two years at the Harbin City Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp, Ms. Ma was tortured and became paralysed again and could not take care of herself. On June 22nd, Ms. Sun went to the Jiadong Police Station to ask for information regarding Ms. Ma. As a result, Ms. Sun was detained and beaten. Police officer Zheng Qingcheng grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the wall. Ms. Sun has been imprisoned in the Jiamusi City Detention Centre since then. Her family is not allowed to see her. -
Ms. Li Shihong Sentenced to Four Years in Prison
2010-08-01After being detained for more than a year, Ms. Li Shihong was sentenced to four years in prison on April 7th, 2010, by the Jiangan Court. She was not allowed to defend herself during the court proceedings. Her lawyer filed an appeal to a higher court and is awaiting a new hearing, as there was no incriminating evidence or legal basis for the original sentence. When Ms. Li's mother Song Wenxiu and Wu Bilin, Huang Jing, and Sun Jingping went to Jiangan Court to appeal for justice on April 30th, all of them were arrested. -
Police Arrest Ms. Guo Ruixiang, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Zezhou Town, Shanxi Province
2010-07-31On July 3rd, 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guo Ruixiao distributed some Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution in Dongxia Village, Liushukou town. She was incriminated and then arrested by the police. At 10 p.m. on the same day, seven policemen of the Zezhou National Security Bureau and Nancui police searched her home and took away her computers and other personal property. Now Ms. Guo is detained in the Zezhou County Detention Centre. They searched her home for over two hours from 10 p.m. to midnight and turned her home upside down to get "proof." The police took away her essays on practising Falun Gong to use as evidence. The team leader of the National Security Bureau took away her computer. -
Trial Ends Hastily after Ms. Jia Guiqin Exposes Facts of Persecution
2010-07-31On July 14th, officials from Shuangta District Court in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province, tried Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Jia Guiqin and her husband, Li Hua, in the city intermediate court. During the trial, Ms. Jia exposed the persecution by the Communist regime, refuted the charges made up by the judges and the prosecutor, and shouted, "Falun Gong is righteous!" The trial was hastily ended. The couple were taken from their home by police on May 24th. The police took away their personal belongings, including a computer, Falun Gong books, and all their savings of over 70,000 yuan in cash as well as other items.
