Three Practitioners Arrested in Kunming City, Yunnan Province

On January 1st, 2009, Mr. Zhang Liang was arrested for distributing Falun Gong fliers in the Ma Street Building Supplies Market in Kunming City. He was taken to the police station and handcuffed behind his back to a metal door until 11:00 a.m. on the second day. Mr. Zhang's hands and wrists swelled up badly when the officer released the handcuffs after repeated requests from Mr. Zhang's family. On January 3rd, Mr. Zhang was taken to the Xishan District Detention Centre. He was sentenced to two years of forced labour and transferred to the Yunnan Province Secondary Forced Labour Camp on February 4th. -
Mr. Xu Dawei Dies after Suffering Eight Years of Abuse in Four Prisons
2009-03-13On February 3rd, 2009, Mr. Xu Dawei's eight-year imprisonment term was due to end. The authorities at Dongling Prison in Shenyang City arranged for the local police station to pick him up for further mistreatment. His grieving and indignant family members arrived at the prison and argued with the authorities. Finally, they were allowed to pick up Mr. Xu. However, they found out that due to the years of abuse, he was extremely thin and suffering from a mental disorder. Compared to what they saw last year, he was a completely different person. Mr. Xu suffered eight years of abuse in four prisons. Within two weeks of being released from Dongling Prison, he passed away on February 16th, 2009. -
Ms. Chen Yufang and Ms. Liu Lichun Cruelly Tortured for Their Belief
2009-03-13Practitioner Ms. Chen Yufang was arrested while she was selling vegetables in September 2007. She was sent to Sanshui Women's Forced Labour Camp where she is being tortured. In 2000 Ms. Chen Yufang and another practitioner Ms. Liu Lichun were arrested. The police demanded the practitioners to say slanderous words about the founder of Falun Gong. However, they refused and the police then beat them with the bamboo strips so hard that several bamboo strips broke. Several policemen pushed Ms. Chen and Ms. Liu to the ground, stepped on their hands, feet and body and pinched their noses. They used a water cannon to blast water down both women's mouths. As a result Ms. Chen lost a tooth. -
Mr. He Fuxing Arrested and Beaten While Walking Along a Road
2009-03-13At 9:00 p.m. on February 11th, 2009, Mr. He Fuxing, a resident of Nongfeng Town, Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province, was walking along a road with his motorcycle when a police vehicle suddenly stopped within a few yards of him. Police officers jumped out of the vehicle; ran towards Mr. He, and immediately started beating him without any explanation. After punching and kicking him for a while, they accused him of stealing the motorcycle he had in his possession. After the officers handcuffed Mr. He, they searched his saddlebag and found some Falun Gong fliers. An officer said, "He is a Falun Gong practitioner. If he is beaten to death, no one will be punished. Beat him!" -
Mr. Liang Jianguo and His Wife Ms. Shen Luoling Sentenced to Forced Labour
2009-03-13Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liang Jianguo was arrested on August 2nd, 2008. His daughter, who is not a practitioner, was with him. She too was arrested, but was released 15 days later. Mr. Liang was sentenced to 4 years in prison, and is jailed at the Wangling Prison in You County, Hunan Province. Mr. Liang's wife, Ms. Shen was arrested in Yiyang City on August 5th, 2008. She was sentenced to a year of forced labour, and is imprisoned at the notorious Baimalong Women's Forced Labour Camp. -
Recent Cruel Torture of Falun Gong Practitioners in Tumuji Forced Labour Camp, Inner Mongolia
2009-03-12On January 23rd, 2009, practitioner Mr. Wang Zhanqing was summoned by section head Li Shaomin for a so-called "conversation." After Wang Zhanqing explained the facts of Falun Gong to him Li Shaomin shocked him with an electric baton. Wang Zhanqing took away the baton, and Huang Zigang beat him with a rubber club. Later Li Xinbao used handcuffs to restrain Mr. Wang. They shocked him with two electric batons and beat him with a rubber club. His back and buttocks were beaten black and purple. His head and many parts of his body were covered with burn marks from being shocked with the electric batons. Even getting in and out of bed became very difficult, and Wang Zhanqing had to sleep face-down. -
Yunan Province Second Prison Denies Family Visits for Ms. Shi Yun
2009-03-12Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shi Yun was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. She was detained in Yunan Province Second Prison in May 2008, and has been detained there for nine months. The prison has denied her of family visits. Her family members came to Yunan Province Second Prison again on February 13th, 2009, and requested to visit her. The prison guard called the section where she is being held. Her family was told they needed to bring certification to verify their relationship. When they later came to the prison with the certificate, the guard called the section again and was told that Ms. Shi Yun is under "strict control" and the family needed a letter from the local 610 Office. To this day, her family has not been allowed to see her. -
Young Woman Tortured in the Hainan Province "Legal Education School" Brainwashing Centre
2009-03-12Ms. Chen Zhuoyi, 33, was taken to a brainwashing centre in April 2008, because she has persevered in telling people the facts about the persecution. Ms. Chen was deprived of sleep around the clock. The so-called "teaching assistants" were divided into two-person groups that took turns watching her. Due to prolonged loss of sleep, she often had a headache, felt dizzy, had blurred vision, suffered hearing loss, and fainted many times. They slapped her head and shoulders with Falun Gong books for hours every day, which hurt and numbed her. They beat and kicked her, and told the guards to help them torture her. -
Mother Falls Seriously Ill after Her Son is Arrested and Tortured
2009-03-12Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Zhenxin, 27, was arrested and sent to a forced labour camp in August 2008. Currently, he is being persecuted in Balizhuang Forced Labour Camp in Baoding City. Because of his firm faith in Falun Gong's principles, Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance, Li Zhenxin was tortured in October 2008. The torture methods included being shocked with 4 electric batons on the head, chest, and genitals. The severe treatment made his chest turn purple. In the Mancheng County Detention Centre, Mr. Li Zhenxin was brutally beaten by policemen. He was seriously injured all over his body and suffered a broken leg. -
Ms. Lu Xueqin and Twelve Other Practitioners Arrested and Tortured by Police and 610 Office Personnel in Shandong Province
2009-03-11From January 25th, 2009, to the end of February 2009, the 610 Office in Qingdao City arrested thirteen practitioners. All thirteen have had confessions extorted from them by means of torture and sleep deprivation for periods of two weeks or even longer. Among them, Ms. Lu Xueqin was tortured so badly that she became disabled, and many times she was in critical condition. The families of these practitioners, with the help of nine lawyers, sued them for this. -
The Brutal Persecution of Practitioners at Hongzehu Prison in Jiangsu Province
2009-03-11A large number of Falun Gong practitioners have been detained at Hongzehu Prison in Jiangsu Province. Xie Zhaoyuan was arrested in November 2003 when he posted information regarding the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong on the road to Xinyi City, Jiangsu Province. He was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Xinyi City Court. Mr. Chen Zhanguo was sent to Hongzehu Prison and was brutally mistreated in detention, which caused him to be mentally disordered. -
High School Teacher Ms. Sun Guifang Sentenced to Two Years
2009-03-11On the night of January 24th, 2008, 55-year-old Ms. Sun Guifang, Falun Gong practitioner and teacher was taken from her home by police of Yuquan Town Public Security Bureau. She was given a two year sentence and taken to the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison in Harbin City. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, CCP personnel of Acheng District have persecuted Ms. Sun many times for her belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." This persecution has caused tremendous pain to her and her family, both physically and mentally. -
Ms. Ma Jiying from Tonghe County, Heilongjiang Province, Sentenced to 12-Year Prison Term
2009-03-11Ms. Ma Jiying, 54, a practitioner and farmer from Heilongjiang Province, has already served two sentences in forced labour camps, detained for four years. She was tortured, hung up and beaten with both hands tied behind her back, ordered to sit all day with her face touching the back of another practitioner and her eyes looking straight ahead, forced to wear heavy shackles (over 30 pounds) and made to do hard labour. She suffered other inhumane tortures as well. Recently she was sentenced to a 12-year prison term. She is now imprisoned in Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison, which is located in Harbin City. -
The Persecution of Ms. Mao Kun in Chengdu City
2009-03-10In October 2008 Ms. Mao Kun was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for practising Falun Gong. Before this sentence, Ms. Mao had been detained twice in a forced labour camp and suffered from inhumane tortures because she refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong. In Nanmusi Forced Labour Camp Ms. Mao was viciously beaten and when she went on a hunger strike she was violently force-fed. -
A Good Daughter-in-law Arrested, Her Sick Mother-in-law and Blind Father-in-law Left Unattended
2009-03-10On February 17th, 2009, police officers arrested Ms. Jin Daxia at her work. They also took away her son, threatened him, confiscated the family's property, and confiscated the computer that he uses for school. Those who are familiar with Ms. Jin Daxia were shocked upon hearing the news of her arrest. Since her husband died in an accident she has been looking after her elderly, sick mother-in-law and her completely blind father-in-law. Now they are left at home alone.
