  • Li Wenhe's Family Members Persecuted in Mancheng County, Hebei Province

    On the evening of August 7th, 2008, Li Zhenxing, the eldest son of Mr. Li Wenhe, and Ma Liuquan were arrested by Chinese Communist Party officials when they were distributing Falun Gong materials about the persecution in a village. The two were beaten in the Xiantai Rural Police Station. In the materials describing the local persecution, Yang Ping, deputy leader of the Rural, was described as talking about when Li Wenhe's home was ransacked. Yang Ping got very angry. On August 8th, Li Wenhe's home was ransacked by police. Mr. Li Wenhe, his wife Zhou Wenfang, and a younger son, Li Zhenning, were arrested.
  • Police Shut Down Pharmacy Run by a Practitioner - Customers Outraged

    On August 1st, 2008, Liu Fa, a Communist Party official entered the Tongxintang Pharmacy in Weixian City. He wanted to confiscate Dr. Gong's identity card. This is a card needed to do bank transactions, make purchases in shopping centres and conduct many business-related activities. Hence, Dr. Gong refused. As a result, Liu Fa called for police officers and had the pharmacy surrounded. Many of Dr. Gong's patients were scared and left the pharmacy. Police confiscated all the medicine and equipment in the pharmacy. They also arrested several employees and ransacked some of their homes. Dr. Gong Zhe, and his staff have been sent to the Zhangjiakou brainwashing centre. One customer said, "Closing the pharmacy has brought harm to many families. This act is truly sinful."
  • Elderly Ms. Tang Liwen Brought to Trial by Inner Mongolia Court

    Ms. Tang Liwen, 68, has been detained for more than eight months and was brought to trial by the Inner Mongolia Tonglia Court. During her detention she was taken to the hospital against her will to be force-fed and was injected with unknown drugs. Her family members have travelled to and from many departments asking for her release. Her husband, 78 years old, is under surveillance and monitored by police officers. People from the local community management committee and the police station have taken turns going into his home to harass him, which has made it very difficult for him to live a normal life.
  • Married Couple Ms. Li Mingyan and Mr. Meng Xianwu's Experiences of Being Persecuted

    On the morning of June 17th, 2008, Mr. Meng Xianwu, an internal medicine doctor at a factory hospital, was arrested by officers from the Xijie Police Station in Huludao City, Liaoning Province. At noon, three policemen knocked at Ms. Li Mingyan's door, (Li is Meng's wife), and claimed that they were there to collect the electricity fee. Li Mingyan refused to open the door. The officers threatened, "If you don't open the door, we'll break into your house through the windows. Once we are in, we are going to beat you to death."
  • Practitioners from Jiamusi City Sent to Forced Labour Camps

    On the morning of July 30th, 2008, practitioners Ms. Wang Guizhen, Ms. Fan Shujuan and Ms. Sun Hongwei, were arrested by police from the Jiaxi Police Station because they had told many people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police also ransacked their homes. Later, their family members went to the police station and asked for the release of these practitioners. The police refused to release them and they used the excuse that the arrests were necessary for the "security of the Olympic Games."
  • Ms. Yuan Jieling and Ms. Liu Huirong from Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province Arrested

    On August 4th, 2008, Ms. Yuan Jieling and Ms. Liu Huirong, both from Gaozhou City in Guangdong Province, went to Xieji Town to explain the facts about Falun Gong, but were arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel, and then imprisoned at the Gaozhou Municipal Detention Centre. Ms. Liu's home was ransacked and her personal belongings were confiscated on the same day she was arrested.
  • Ms. Wang Haiqing Arrested and Brutally Tortured Mentally and Physically

    Ms. Wang Haiqing, a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in May 2008. She was force-fed and tortured both physically and mentally for three months. She was in critical condition. Policeman Dong Linfang held Ms. Wang down and said, "I don't believe that I cannot handle you." Wang Haiqing's was seriously injured, and she lost control of her bowels and bladder. It was unbearably painful.
  • Practitioners Ba Xinmin and Others Suffer Persecution in Nanyang City, Henan Province

    Mr. Ba Xinmin, 60 years old, was sentenced to two years in jail simply because he refused to renounce his beliefs. He suffered torture in Nanyang City Detention Centre. Every day he had to work for more than 10 hours, but was fed rubbish that even pigs and dogs would not eat. Two years later when he was released, his weight had dropped from 70 kg to about 45 kg due to malnutrition. On August 5th, 2008, police arrested Ba, his wife, their neighbour, and relatives who were visiting at the time. They hid Ba in a "hotel" and interrogated him in private. They brutally tortured Ba because they thought he coordinated Falun Gong activities in the area.
  • Ms. Wang Yuhui and Mr. Li Zhihong Arrested in Changsha City During the Olympics

    On August 18th, 2008, six police officers broke into Ms. Wang Yuhui's house and arrested her. While ransacking her house, they confiscated her computer and some personal items. Why was this teacher arrested? The only reason for her arrest was that she is a Falun Gong practitioner. After she was arrested, without a hearing or trial, she was sent to the Legislative Educational Training Centre in the city. This centre was organized by the 610 Office for the sole purpose of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. More specifically, the centre is for brainwashing the practitioners into giving up their practice. In this brainwashing centre, she is kept in a room and watched 24 hours a day.
  • Persecution in the Shunyi District near Beijing Conducted by Officials Claiming to Be "Safeguarding the Olympics"

    The Shunyi District is north-east of Beijing and was to host the rowing and long-distance swimming competitions at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park for the 2008 Olympics. The police from the Shunyi National Security Bureau and the Domestic Security Division had compiled the documents of local Falun Gong practitioners into a special file, which included their names, ages, family members, acquaintances, and contact details. Practitioners then had to write a guarantee statement promising that they would give up practising Falun Gong, and they would not go out during the Olympics.
  • Mr. Qiu Baohe from Jiaohe City, Jilin Province, Secretly Sentenced to Five Years of Imprisonment

    As of July 29th, 2008, Mr. Qiu Baohe, a Falun Gong practitioner, has been detained for over four months in Jiaohe Detention Centre. He has been secretly sentenced to five years of imprisonment by the Jiaohe City Court. A guard surnamed Li refused to allow Mr. Qiu's family to visit him in the detention centre. Li also threatened them, saying that practitioners weren't allowed to hire lawyers. The court issued a verdict on July 21st but did not notify Mr. Qiu or his family. Court officials did threaten Mr. Qiu, saying, "Your sentence will be longer if the case is appealed."
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Xu Peng from Songyuan City Subjected To Torture, Secret Trial

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xu Peng from Songyuan City, Jilin Province was arrested on April 22nd, 2008. He is being held at the Shanyou Detention Centre. Guard Ma Hongzhe tortured him using a procedure called the "Big Hang-up," which rendered him unable to walk. Mr. Xu has been arrested three times. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel extorted a confession from him and framed him for committing a crime, labelling him as an "anti-CCP ringleader." Now they intend to hold a secret trial to sentence him.
  • Liu Ruping and His Wife from Jinan City Arrested Again

    Mr. Liu Ruping, a Falun Gong practitioner, was a lawyer. On August 12th, 2008, just as Mr. Liu's wife, Ms. Zhang, was leaving home, officials from the 610 Office and the police station in Changqing arrested her. They took her house key and entered her home without the permission of her husband (Liu Ruping) and son, who were home at the time. The police ransacked the home. So that Mr. Liu wouldn't shout, the officers sprayed pepper water on his face, keeping him from talking or opening his eyes. Liu Ruping was taken to a Jinan brainwashing centre in the Liuchangshan District. Ms. Zhang was put in the Jinan detention centre.
  • Ms. Chen Wenbei Sent to Forced Labour Camp Prior to the Olympics

    Beijing resident Ms. Chen Wenbei was arrested by police officers on the evening of May 17th, 2008, at her home. She was sentenced to forced labour and taken to Inner Mongolia prior to the Olympics. On August 9th, 2008, she turned 42 years old in Tumuji Forced Labour Camp in Inner Mongolia. When she was taken away, seminars that she was to attend with personnel from different hospitals and that were planned in advance using sophisticated techniques had to be cancelled. Her husband is unable to make a living and lives at home with their 16-year-old child on borrowed money.
  • Shenzhou City Authorities Search Practitioners' Homes

    On July 18th, 2008, officers from the Dafengying Township Police Station searched several practitioners' homes in Shenzhou City, Hebei Province. At each home, the agents checked the rooftop for the presence of a satellite dish. Then they ransacked every room, looking for Falun Gong books or materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. If they found anything, they extorted money from the practitioner (fines of between 7,000 to 10,000 yuan). Practitioners unable to pay the fines were arrested. When the agents could not find any materials, they questioned practitioners as to whether they still practised Falun Gong.
