  • Police Arrest Numerous Falun Gong Practitioners and Ransack Their Homes in Laishui County, Hebei Province

    On June, 6th, 2008, more than a dozen police officers from Laishui County arriving in three vehicles harassed many Falun Gong practitioners and ransacked their homes. The officers claimed that they were from Hebei Province, Baoding City and Laishui County. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Helin was supporting the victims of the terrible earthquake in Sichuan Province with donations. For some reason, his kind actions were construed as a "crime" by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). They claimed that Mr. Zhang must be a Falun Gong leader because he had donated lots of money. As a result, his home was ransacked by police officers.
  • Communist Party Officials in Yueyang City Arrest 25 Practitioners in Two Days

    The Olympic torch relay was scheduled to pass through Yueyang City, Hunan Province on June 3rd, 2008. On June 1st and June 2nd, members of the Yueyang City 610 Office arrested 25 practitioners. The police also searched the practitioners' homes. Orders were given to Party officials to keep an eye on each practitioner on file. The officials spread the rumour that it was mandatory to prevent Falun Gong followers from disrupting the Olympic torch relay. An all-out campaign was launched to arrest practitioners. Each practitioner on file was closely followed or watched. The officials even threatened some practitioners to prevent them from leaving home.
  • Mr. Yu Qingyuan Arrested; His Wife Escapes Detention Centre but Remains Homeless

    Mr. Yu Qingyuan is a Falun Gong practitioner who was arrested by the police on the train in May 2008. On the evening of April 23rd, 2008, police arrested Mr. Yu's wife Yuan Shujun. Later, Ms. Yuan Shujun escaped from the Shuanliao Detention Centre and then abandoned her home to avoid further persecution. Mr. Yu's daughter has been traumatized by this series of events. Presently, Mr. Yu's father-in-law takes care of Mr. Yu's daughter and their life is very difficult.
  • The Persecution of Mr. Wu Wenfeng, a Blind Practitioner from Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province

    Mr. Wu Wenfeng, a blind Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested in June 2008 at an elderly people's centre by police from the Xinjieji Police Station on June 5th, 2008. Since the Chinese Communist Party launched the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Mr. Wu has also been often persecuted. On September 22nd, 2003, Mr. Wu was transferred to Dongsheng elderly people's centre where he was detained and closely monitored. One policeman from the 610 Office told him, "We will lock you up here until you die."
  • Jiangdu Court Trial Shows the Despicable Nature of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) Court System

    On June 12th, Judge Zhang Jun of Jiangdu Court in Jiangsu Province presided over a trial involving defendant Mr. Wei Bensheng, a Falun Gong practitioner. At the beginning of the trial, two public prosecutors from Jiangdu Municipal Procuratorate read aloud the false, fabricated charges against Mr. Wei. Mr. Wei's defence lawyers pointed out to the court that the prosecution against Mr. Wei was in direct violation of the Chinese constitution, which grants each Chinese citizen the right to freedom of belief and freedom of speech.
  • Police Officers Search the Home of a Retired Teacher and Her Disabled Daughter

    On May 28th, 2008, Ms. Zhang Fuhua, a retired teacher living in the Oil Extraction Community, Dagang Oil Field, Tianjin City, had her home broken into by seven police officers. Claiming that someone had reported Ms. Zhang for practising Falun Gong, distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong, officers searched her home and seized all Falun Gong-related books and materials. Before leaving, several police seized her hand and forced her to sign a piece of paper against her will.
  • Arrests of Falun Gong Practitioners Wang Yinghua, Wang Yingxia, and Others from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province

    Two sisters, Wang Yinghua and Wang Yingxia, were arrested and detained by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. The oldest sister, Wang Yinghua, was detained in Jiamusi Detention Centre for more than two months after she was arrested by the Tiananmen Square police for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. The police did not release her until she was near death due to the police brutality. The other sister, Wang Yingxia, was also arrested, and her house has been ransacked five times since 1999. The police have extorted tens of thousands of yuan from her. She was twice sent to a forced labour camp. When she was detained in Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp, the police put her through numerous forms of torture.
  • Practitioners Arrested and Their Homes Ransacked in Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia

    In April 2008, the Tongliao City Police Department, Ke District Police Department, Domestic Security Division, several police stations, and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel from neighbourhood administrations made a coordinated effort to conduct a so-called "secret check-up" on local practitioners. They phoned or visited them, using the excuses of address verification, low income assistance registration, or providing job opportunities. On May 30th, they began wide-spread arrests. Police arrived with five locksmiths at the home of a female practitioner surnamed Zhang, broke in after picking the lock, and arrested this practitioner.
  • Children of Practitioners Arrested by Police in Dongkou County, Hunan Province

    Practitioner Ms. Xiao Hongyan was arrested on May 13th, 2008, and is currently being held in Dongkou County Detention Centre. Practitioner Ms. Liu Qiju was arrested on July 28th, 2007, and is now imprisoned at Baimalong Forced Labour Camp. On June 2nd, 2008, Xiang Xuan, director of a legal institute went to the home of Ms. Xiao's relatives. They charged Ms. Xiao's son Xiang Zhiyuan and Ms. Liu's son Xiang Shuocheng with going on-line at an Internet cafe to demand the release of their mothers. The police wanted to arrest the two boys, but local village officials said both were still teenagers. However, that night, Domestic Security Division officers still arrested Xiang Zhiyuan. Xiang Shuocheng managed to escape.
  • Chinese Communist Party Members in Qinan County, Shandong Province Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners

    Using the upcoming Olympic Games as an excuse, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials are persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in Shuanghou Town on a large scale. So far, the police have arrested four practitioners. The four practitioners are currently held at the Qinan County Detention Centre, and have been subjected to interrogation and mistreatment. Two practitioners left home to avoid persecution, many have been harassed and interrogated, and homes were searched.
  • Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Officials Arrest and Fine Falun Gong Practitioners in Mengyin County, Shandong Province

    It is well-known that Mengyin County of Shandong Province is one of China's most poverty-stricken areas. Police from the local 610 Office and police stations use every chance possible to harass, torture and fine Falun Gong practitioners. Usually, they arrest practitioners and ransack their homes. They steal anything of value, including chickens, rabbits, dogs and trees. They take practitioners to brainwashing centres, police stations or detention centres. They take advantage of the sentimentality of practitioners' family members who do not want to see their loved ones suffer, and force them to pay excessive fines. Some practitioners become impoverished due to the greediness of those evil people, and their children have to quit school and work to help pay the debts.
  • Three Falun Gong Practitioners from Hongjiang City, Hunan Province Arrested

    On May 28th, police officers from Hongjiang City broke into Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Biyun's home. They ransacked the home, arrested Ms. Wang, and then detained her at Baihunao Detention Centre. At 7:00 p.m., police officers broke into Ms. Yang Jinlan's home, and arrested Ms. Yang, who is in her seventies, then also detained her at the Baihunao Detention Centre. On May 30th, each was extorted of 800 yuan before they were released.
  • Multiple Falun Gong Practitioners from Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province Arrested

    Police arrested Ms. Chen Guifang as she was distributing material exposing the persecution on December 26th, 2007. She was sentenced to a three-year prison term. Ms. Chen Guifang has a dependent mother in her eighties who is now left to fend for herself. Ms. Lu Guizhen was arrested by a police officer as she was distributing Falun Gong-related materials on January 12th, 2008. She was sentenced to a one-year prison term and became ill due to mistreatment in detention. Her mental health is very poor. Despite frequent inquiries and requests for release by her family, the prison authorities have refused to release her.
  • Three Female Practitioners from Yingcheng City, Hubei Province, Arrested

    On June 4th, 2008, Ms. Wang Changping, a practitioner, went to the Gepu Police Station to request the release of two female practitioners. Police officers forced her into a police car. She was detained at Dongmafang Police Station for more than two hours. During this time, the police prohibited her family from seeing her and also beat them. On June 5th, 2008, Ms. Gao Wenxia, Ms. Li Yuling, and another female practitioner visited Dongmafang Police Station to ask for the release of Ms. Wang. As a result, the three were forced into a police car and taken to the No. 2 Detention Centre in Yingcheng City.
  • Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Agents in Zhuolu County, Hebei Province Arrest Practitioners in the Name of the Olympic Games

    In the name of securing stability for the upcoming Olympic Games, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents in Zhuolu County, Hebei Province have been monitoring and registering all Falun Gong practitioners in the area. Under the pretext of checking their resident ID cards, the county government and police station are going from house to house, interrogating and examining county residents. Their goal is to monitor Falun Gong practitioners, Tibetans, religious groups, and petitioners. Meanwhile, police officers of the Zhuolu County 610 Office have repeatedly harassed practitioners who are supposedly "key characters" and tried to force them to sign documents promising that they will give up their beliefs.
