A Call to China

Falun Gong Information Centre called for the urgent rescue of Song-xu on January 7. Song-xu was imprisoned in the number one jail of Zhengzhou city where he was viciously beaten. Having decided to go on hunger strike he was forced fed and his life was in immediate danger. Falun Gong Information Centre called on the media, governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, and individuals to make telephone calls and send faxes to security departments, 610 Offices, committee offices of the party to demand an immediate release of Song-Xu.
I also decided to join the rescue activity. When I asked other practitioners how to get involved, I received a helpful suggestion from one of them.

I spent a lot of time calling China. Because I could not speak Chinese, I had to prepare for possible problems. I decided no matter what happened I would find one who could speak English.

I made some notes of a few simple and clear points to remind me. No matter what would happen, I would keep calm. I wanted to let the Chinese citizens realise that we were aware of what the Chinese government did to Falun Gong practitioners. We were making it clear that they should not assist in the persecution of innocent people.

I telephoned. Someone picked up the phone after I dialed for the forth time. It was a friendly female voice. I slowly and clearly said, “Hello! I am German. Can you speak English?”She did not answer. Then, she said something in Chinese. I repeated my words twice. After a period of time, I heard another female voice from the other side. I repeated my words again. I heard some intermittent English, and then Chinese again. She spoke in a light and friendly manner, but I could not understand. I felt a big gap and intense silence between us.

Then, there came the third person. I repeated my words again. She could speak fluent English. I told her that we had heard of the incident of Song-xu in Germany. He must be released. I told her that we also knew thousands of similar incidents. We knew what the Jiang regime had done. She said that the department she worked for was responsible for issuing licenses, and I should call the telephone exchange. I asked her to give me the numbers of the telephone exchange. She was silent. I continued talking about the persecution. She said that the department responsible for the incident was in another building. I asked her to give me their numbers. Silence again. So I kept on talking about the persecution and its illegality. There were so many people persecuted, and so much false propagandas. It went on like this for some time. I was not impatient. I did not raise my voice. I spoke calmly and with ease. I had never spoken as tranquilly and as clear-headedly as this time. Between us, I felt the distance of the universe. It seemed the conversation was occurring in an another dimension, and that there were many higher beings listening.

I narrated some important incidents in a short time. Then, I heard a small and low voice from the other side, “Falun Gong is illegal in China.”I answered her, “The Chinese constitution protects the freedom of belief.”She said, “I am not allowed to listen to you.”I answered, “Of course I don’t want to get you into trouble. I only have one request. Please tell what we have talked about to people around you, such as colleagues, friends, and relatives, etc.”I then thanked her, and we said goodbye to each other.
