Falun Gong means to Katarina Hall that she gets peaceful and happy. To the Chinese adherents the practice is connected to mortal danger. The Falun Gong Information Centre in Sweden is now questioning the actions of the Chinese Government.

It has reported on several occasions about the harassment to which adherents of Falun Gong in China have been subjected. For instance, the Chinese State news agency claims that Falun Gong is an (slanderous term used by Jiang Zemin’s regime) and that five adherents set themselves on fire in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The Information Centre in Sweden writes in a press statement that these are false accusation as Falun Gongs teachings forbids all forms of killing.

The Chinese authorities has also said that no adherents of Falun Gong have been sent to labour camps while Amnesty International has documents saying that thousands of adherents are in labour camps and tens of thousands in police custody.

Furthermore, 120 adherents of Falun Gong have been tortured to death in police custody something that the Chinese regime is denying.

“We are writing a petition to the Swedish government to ask them to put pressure on the Chinese government,” says Katarina Hall, contact person for the meditation movement in Gävle.

Doesn’t understand

She doesn’t understand why the Chinese authorities are acting the way they do since Falun Gong is neither a religious or a political movement, and she doesn’t have any explanation for the persecution.

“One has to take care of oneself and one’s fellow beings,” she says.

Katarina got an insight into Falun Gong when she went on a acupuncture course, and three years ago she was in China to learn more about and to practise Falun Gong together with Chinese people. At that time it was still allowed to practise Falun Gong in China.

“I get peaceful and happy, and I stay well. (…) We are about six or seven in Gävle who meet on Mondays and Tuesday. I also practise the principles”, says Katarina who radiates health.

Falun Gong is described as a cultivation method for body and soul based on the characteristic of the universe: Zhen (truthfulness), Shan (compassion) and Ren (Forbearance).(…) They don’t charge anything since Falun Gong activities are to be none-commercial. (…)

The exercises are to be done slowly and all in all the exercises take 45-60 minutes.

In Sweden there are 500-1000 adherents but the meditation method is slowly but surely spreading. Katarina Hall hopes that more will join.

“There are reports that show this improves your health,” she says.
