A Xinxiang City resident imprisoned for his faith died about three hours after he was rushed to the ER. The authorities at Zhengzhou Prison announced the next day that Mr. Fu Jinquan had been released on medical parole. They warned that anyone who disclosed news of his death would be punished.
It is unclear when the 64-year-old man was arrested and sentenced for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Prior to his latest arrest, he was once incarcerated at a labor camp in late 2006 and tortured.
According to insiders, guards at Zhengzhou Prison forced Mr. Fu to take large amounts of pills in the days leading up to his untimely passing. He was sent to a local hospital at 7:10 p.m. on June 29, 2016 and died at 10 p.m. that night.
Zhengzhou Prison is a centralized location used by Henan Province authorities to incarcerate male residents given jail time for practising Falun Gong. It has been 17 years since the persecution began in 1999, and Zhengzhou Prison’s efforts to make jailed practitioners give up their belief have continued.
Mr. Fu is just one of many victims of the persecution of Falun Gong. Mr. Li Junqi was beaten on multiple occasions, and Captain Zhang Jianfeng said to inmates, “Keep beating him as long as he refuses to give up Falun Gong. I’ll take care of it if he dies.”
