A Linjiang City, Jilin Province resident passed away one year after he was arrested for raising awareness about the persecution of his faith, Falun Gong. Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Chi Minyou was arrested on January 20, 2018, for distributing New Year's artwork with information about Falun Gong. When the police found him doing the Falun Gong exercises in the detention centre, they kicked him in the chest and stripped him naked in the freezing cold of winter.
Mr. Chi held a hunger strike to protest the abuse and was released several days later.
Upon returning home, he often suffered from chest pain and had difficulty breathing.
His health took a turn for the worse in early 2019, prior to the Chinese New Year. Meanwhile, the police harassed him repeatedly at home and threatened to stop his pension if he didn't give up his faith. The intensified intimidation and pressure dealt him another heavy blow. He was unable to recover his health and passed away not long after the new year, on March 7, 2019. He was 62.
A Life Benefited by Falun Gong
Mr. Chi began to practice Falun Gong in 1998. He credited the practice for giving him good health. He lived by Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. When his father-in-law became sick and bedridden, he gave him meticulous care for seven years until he passed away.
Mr. Chi once helped a coworker fix a leaking roof in the warehouse where he worked in 2007. Not knowing that the wooden roof board was rotten, he fell from a height of three stories. He survived the accident and recovered by doing the Falun Gong exercises. He never sought any compensation from his coworker or workplace, which surprised many locals who heard about this accident. They were impressed by his forgivingness and miraculous recovery. One person commented, “I've no idea there are still good people like him in the society now.”
