While my schedule does not permit me to be with you in person, I wanted to send along an expression of my support for your efforts to stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by the communist dictatorship of the People’s Republic of China.
As many of you know, I was an original sponsor of House Resolution 188, which was adopted by the United States House of Representatives last July. That legislation called upon the government of the PRC to cease its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and to cease the harassment of U.S. citizens and residents who practice Falun Gong.
Our legislation also calls for the U.S. Government to urge the Chinese Government to release from detention all Falun Gong practitioners and end the torture and other cruel, inhumane, and degrading treatment of those practitioners.
Today, I commend you for your hard work on behalf of freedom and your efforts to gain the release of Dr. Charles Li, an American citizen currently being detained in China. Hopefully, your efforts will lead to his homecoming soon. Be assured that I continue to support your efforts and will share your pleas with my colleagues in the Congress and with our officials in the State Department.
