Cherishing the Path of Cultivation That Master Arranged

I am a Dafa disciple who obtained the Fa in 1998. In 2014 I came to the UK to study, and I have stayed in the UK ever since. In these twelve years in the UK, I have not yet submitted an article to the UK Fahui. This time I would like to make up for that and turn in this "assignment", writing out my cultivation experiences over these years in the UK: to report to Master, to share with fellow practitioners, and to advance diligently together with everyone.

Part One: Coming to an Unfamiliar City to Live Independently and Establishing a New Practice Site

After graduating in 2015, I stayed on in London, taking part in spreading the Fa and clarifying the truth there. In 2017 I found my first full-time job, so I moved away from London to an unfamiliar city and began living on my own.

When I arrived in the new city, the first thing on my mind was how I would spread the Fa at weekends. There were no other Dafa disciples in this city, and there was no local truth clarification site. I felt that I should establish a new Hongfa site here. My moving to this place was not accidental: there were likely sentient beings with whom I had predestined relationships, and I should fulfil my mission. This thought grew stronger and stronger, and I knew deep down that this was something I ought to do. But I was afraid: I had no idea how to begin building a truth clarification site from scratch. At this point Master arranged for a fellow practitioner to help me. This practitioner had dealt with the UK government and Members of Parliament many times before and knew how to make appointments to meet people and clarify the truth. The meetings themselves went very smoothly, and we soon obtained permission to run a truth clarification site. With this practitioner's help, we finally began our weekend truth-clarification and signature-collection activities in this city.

At this truth clarification site there were just the two of us. We ran it well at first, and I thought we would keep doing it this way for good. Then one day, out of the blue, the practitioner said she was going to move away from this city. This was a tremendous test for me, because it meant that from then on I would have to sustain this truth clarification site all by myself. I felt a loneliness like never before.

Gradually, through studying the Fa and cultivating, I came to realise that this was a test for me. Was it that I could only cultivate and clarify the truth when someone accompanied me, and would stop if no one did? Wasn't this precisely meant to remove my attachment to relying on others? Once I made up my mind, I told myself that even if I was on my own, I would persevere. This was a test of whether I was capable, of whether I could steadfastly do what I was supposed to do at all times. Every Saturday morning I would carry a large display board on my back, pull a small cart, and walk about half an hour to the city centre, then walk back home when I finished in the afternoon. Every Saturday felt very fulfilling. Although it was tiring, I encouraged myself not to be afraid of getting tired or enduring hardship, but stay determined and do well at saving people.

Part Two: Improving in the Process of Rescuing My Mother, a Fellow Practitioner

In December 2019, I encountered a major trial in my life: my mother in China, who is also a fellow practitioner, was abducted by the local vicious police. It all happened so suddenly. I immediately contacted the UK Falun Dafa Association and informed all practitioners in the UK about it. Many practitioners helped me, offering a great deal of advice and ideas. I began the effort to rescue my mother. I wrote truth-clarification letters to the UK government, local Members of Parliament, and Amnesty International appealing for her rescue, and I set up a petition website. Throughout this process my thoughts kept wavering: one moment they were righteous, the next I felt the situation was hopeless, and my mind grew unsteady. I knew I had to study the Fa more and send forth righteous thoughts more diligently. I was clearly aware that this was interference from the old forces and thought karma, which wanted to make me negative. I told myself that I had to break through the trap set by the old forces. Gradually, my thoughts became firm, and my state of mind grew more and more calm.

During the rescue process there were also many xinxing tests that left a deep impression on me. For a few days, everything became difficult. When I sought help from fellow practitioners, there were several times when they gave me a dressing-down: some said I was too attached, others questioned why I was waiting for other practitioners to make truth-clarification phone calls instead of calling the police in China myself. In the midst of my ordeal, hearing these things made me very upset, and thoughts of resentment towards fellow practitioners began to arise in my mind. I immediately recognised this budding resentment, seized it, and eliminated it. I told myself that no matter how upset I was, I must look at the issue positively, from the perspective of a cultivator. Resentment towards fellow practitioners is exactly what the evil loves to see. A practitioner's outward behaviour does not necessarily reflect what they truly think, yet it can come across as jarring; I absolutely must not fall into the evil's trap. When I calmed down and thought it over carefully, I found that although the practitioners' tone was not good, they had indeed pointed out areas where I needed to improve. I reflected that I was too attached to the outcome of my mother being released. I should make good use of the fact that she had been abducted to clarify the truth and save the people of the world. Whether she could be rescued depended on many factors, including her own cultivation state and karma. I should do what I was supposed to do in this process, let go of my attachment, and entrust everything about myself and my mother to Master, following Master's arrangements in all things.

As for the practitioners saying that I should make the truth-clarification phone calls myself, I also reflected on this carefully. I sensed that I had been relying too much on the practitioners in the RTC truth-clarification phone team. There were many things I could do. Why was I not doing them? Behind this lay an attachment to dependence and an attachment of fear: I was afraid to face the vicious police, and afraid I would not clarify the truth well. Since I had recognised my own problem, I ought to be brave enough to break through it. Master saw that I had the determination to make a breakthrough in truth-clarification phone calls, and so arranged for an experienced, elder Dafa disciple to help me. This practitioner was very patient. She also helped me set up a group chat and added several other practitioners who knew how to make such calls. Together, we used the time from 6:30 to 7:30 each morning to make truth-clarification phone calls to the police station, Public Security Bureau, and detention centre in China that had abducted my mother. This was usually the time when practitioners got up early to do the exercises and study the Fa, and I was very grateful that they would use their own time to help me. This elder practitioner often encouraged me to speak more, and after I finished she would give me suggestions on where I needed to improve. Through this experience, I made a great breakthrough in truth-clarification phone calls.

With Christmas approaching, practitioners in the group one after another also stopped joining the morning calls and I was all alone. Over Christmas, there was no festive joy over the Christmas as I was slone. But I also knew clearly that this was a test for me: to see whether I could keep going when I was on my own. Silently in my heart I said to Master: Please rest assured, Master, I will surely pass this test well, and I will not let you down. And so I kept making truth-clarification phone calls every morning. After my mother had been unlawfully detained for more than twenty days, my call finally got through to the officer handling her case. He quietly listened to more than twenty minutes of truth-clarification before hanging up. The next day my mother was released and acquitted.

Having passed this test, I felt I had grown a great deal. I used to fear trouble, ordeals, and that bad things would happen. Now, I have come to understand that a cultivator must look at things the other way around. I have understood that one must think about everything from a cultivator's perspective; I have grasped what righteous thoughts and righteous actions truly are; and I have eliminated my attachment to relying on others.

Part Three: Strengthening Fa Study During the Pandemic While Still Doing Well at Spreading the Fa and Saving People

In 2020, the CCP virus pandemic began to spread throughout the world. We should recognise the seriousness of cultivation even more, and treat our own cultivation strictly. During that period I began to make the most of my time each day to study the Fa and send forth righteous thoughts. I began to strengthen my exercises, doing an hour of the wheel-holding exercise, and I began to memorise the Fa. After I began memorising the Fa, a remarkable phenomenon appeared: I would recite the Fa on my own even in an unconscious state. For instance, when I had just got up in the morning and was still groggy and not fully awake, my mind had already begun reciting Zhuan Falun. During that stretch of time my cultivation state was very good. At night I dreamed of myself hurtling up towards the heavens, breaking through dimension after dimension faster and faster. It was so fast that I was a little frightened, though more than that I was thrilled. I often dreamed of flying in the heavens; I once flew to different heavenly paradises and saw some magnificent celestial scenes, and I also dreamed of a golden Falun turning in the sky, spinning larger and larger.

Because everyone faced quarantine and lockdown, the Saturday city-centre Hongfa site could no longer continue. So I looked for ways to take part in other projects. Since I could not go out, many fellow practitioners and I took part in making truth-clarification phone calls on the RTC platform. Later, The Epoch Times launched a dedicated special edition exposing the truth about the CCP's leaking of the virus, and I began to go door to door in my area distributing Epoch Times newspapers and truth-clarification materials opposing organ harvesting. My coverage in distributing truth-clarification flyers in the city where I live reached nearly 45%. Later still, practitioners in Cambridge invited me to spread the Fa there. Cambridge is a famous tourist destination that draws large numbers of visitors every year, so during periods when we were not promoting Shen Yun, I would take part in the frontline truth-clarification activities.

In the course of clarifying the truth, I came to realise the power and importance of compassion.

I remember one time, a middle-aged man from mainland China walked past me with a menacing air, swinging his arms, looking every bit like someone not to be trifled with. I was not intimidated; I smiled and greeted him openly and naturally, and handed him truth-clarification materials. He was taken aback, and then unconsciously he too broke into a smile. The moment he smiled, his whole appearance changed, and he looked like a kindly uncle. This incident left a deep impression on me. I came to realise that we should not be frightened by ordinary people's outward appearance. Many Chinese people have become repugnant in appearance because of being steeped in the influence of the evil CCP, and when our kind thoughts reach their field, they can dissolve the ferocity and ill will in that field and restore them to the way a kind person should look. Of course, I often run into people who curse at me, too. But for the most part I can manage not to get angry and not to be stirred. We Dafa disciples should influence ordinary people and rectify their incorrect thoughts and behaviour, rather than letting ordinary people affect the mindset with which we do things.

Part Four: Improving in the Process of Taking Part in the Shen Yun Project

Since 2019 I have taken part in the Shen Yun merchandise project. Every year I very much look forward to taking part and to Shen Yun's arrival. I feel deeply honoured to work alongside fellow practitioners and do the Shen Yun work well. We are very busy every day, yet not only do I not feel tired, I even feel light and airy, ethereal, as if in a dream; after a few days it is as though I have taken a tour of a fairyland, having forgotten all my worries and the trivial matters of ordinary life, with each day calm and peaceful. When the Shen Yun tour comes to an end, I am always reluctant to part.

We also went from not really knowing what we were doing to growing steadily more skilled and professional. In the past Shen Yun performed in only a few cities, but this gradually grew to more than a dozen cities, and more and more hands were needed. In the past the coordinator could take on all the work alone, but as the number of cities increased, the coordinator could no longer manage everything and needed more people to help take on some of the tasks. I used to be someone who feared trouble, and I would always decline when faced with the coordinator's requests. But I was improving in my cultivation as well, and I developed a sense of responsibility; I felt that I should take on what I ought to take on, that I should have a sense of duty and not shrink back when something came up.

In recent years, I began to take on the site-manager role for one of the Shen Yun merchandise counters. When working with fellow practitioners, sometimes we would have friction, which left me aggrieved and dissatisfied, feeling that they lacked any sense of responsibility. Sometimes I would try to talk it out with a practitioner and express my views, but I often felt that doing so had little effect. I was very angry, and although I tried my best to restrain my emotions and not lose my temper, my attitude could still be read on my face. At times I would also complain to the coordinator: maybe next year we just shouldn't let certain practitioners take part. But the next year these practitioners were still invited.

At this point I began to reflect on myself. The indignation in my heart had already begun to run counter to the nature of the universe. There must surely be something in me that needed to improve. First, I should not so readily propose that a fellow practitioner not take part in this project. Who gets to take part in the Shen Yun project is arranged by Master. Work as important as the Shen Yun project is a rare opportunity to establish mighty virtue; it is not something one can simply join because one wants to. Since fellow practitioners were arranged to come by Master, they must surely have a mission of their own to fulfil.

Second, I was always wanting others to do things according to my ideas. When others behaved in ways that fell short of my expectations, I ought to respond with even more understanding and consideration, rather than with blame and complaint. Everyone's conduct is a reflection of their own level, and every fellow practitioner is cultivating in Dafa and will gradually elevate themselves through cultivation. Practitioners cultivating within a project will inevitably have their own experiences, understandings, and improvements; as they gradually accumulate experience and gain insights and make progress, they will naturally come to do well, rather than being forced to. I should cultivate a tolerant heart and have the magnanimity to accept others.

Since I had realised this, I had to live up to it. At the time I set a goal for myself: the next time I took part in the Shen Yun project, I would improve on this issue and no longer harbour complaints about fellow practitioners or look down on them. Whatever a practitioner's behaviour, I would accept it and quietly make up for any shortcomings I noticed. By the following year's Shen Yun, I could already clearly feel a change within me; although there was still a tiny bit of the complaining mentality that I had not removed, it had improved a great deal, and my heart was much calmer. This year, while selling Shen Yun merchandise in one city, my counter had only me and one other practitioner. This practitioner was not yet very familiar with the work, so I quietly did all the tasks well, without the slightest discontent in my heart. Not only that, but working alone I was even faster than the several people at another counter, and overall sales also grew considerably compared with last year. I discovered that in the past I had been too attached to so-called fairness, thinking that everyone should be allotted an equal amount of work. But practitioners' abilities vary: some are good at this, others at that; some are quick, others slow. If our abilities are strong, then those who are more able should do more, and we should not feel unbalanced over taking on more. Our abilities were given to us by Master in the first place, so we ought to give full play to our abilities and strengths to do well the work of assisting Master in Fa-rectification.

Conclusion

Looking back on these years of cultivation, I have encountered many trials and setbacks along the way. Under Master's compassionate protection and strengthening, I have stumbled my way to where I am today, and I have come to deeply appreciate that cultivation is not easy. Master said in "2018 Fa Teaching Given in Washington, D.C.":

"What I am ultimately trying to convey to you is that it was all for this affair that you came here! So you have no choice [but to do all of this well]; there is really no other way! That's the case for Dafa disciples. For ordinary people it's fine to reincarnate however they may. But that's not an option for you, as you are here for Dafa and its great undertaking. So if you don't do well you will be left with regrets. And I especially want to remind our veteran Dafa disciples not to slack off. You have gone through so many long and grueling years to make it to this day, and it really hasn't been easy! Do you not know to value and cherish yourselves? I certainly cherish you! And divine beings do too! (Applause.) So all the more so should you value and cherish yourselves."

Every time I read this passage of the Fa, I can feel Master's painstaking and earnest teaching. I often use this passage of Fa to remind and spur myself on: I must cherish the path I have walked, treat the road ahead with even greater earnestness and seriousness, and be diligent without slacking off.

My level is limited; if anything I have said is not in accordance with the Fa, please kindly point it out.
