Zheng Lanfeng was illegally arrested on July 20, 1999 when she was doing Falun Gong exercises in public. She was detained for half a month and arrested again while going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Later, she was transferred to Chifeng City, where she was detained for several days. During her detention, the police stole 1,700 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] from her.
In November 2000, Zheng Lanfeng was arrested for distributing material about Falun Gong. She refused to sign a "transformation letter," so she was unjustly sentenced to one year of forced labour. In November 2001, near the end of her sentence, she still refused to sign the "transformation letter" so her term was extended for three more months. Zheng Lanfeng protested the persecution with a hunger strike and successfully got out of the labour camp keeping a firm righteous mind. After returning home, Zheng Lanfeng continued clarifying the facts to everyday people, telling people about the persecution of Falun Dafa. She often went to remote mountain areas to distribute truth-clarification materials. In the beginning of 2003, she was reported while she was distributing materials in the countryside. On February 11, 2003, she was once again arrested. On February 28, Zheng Lanfeng died of torture. Only after her body had been sent to Chifeng City No. 3 Hospital on March 5, 2003 did the police inform her family.
The murderers' names and torture details are still under investigation.
