A number of Falun Gong practitioners visited the annual Book and Library Fair in Gothenburg between 13 and 16 September, to inform people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The fair received more than 100 000 visitors; among those present were famous authors, publishers, political parties, NGO [non-government organizations] and the media. This was an excellent opportunity for us to get in touch with many different people who can do something to help stop the persecution of Falun Gong.
We informed the famous people that we met – among them politicians and sports and TV personalities – about the persecution and gave them the material we had. We also spoke to one of the most well-known journalists in Sweden who was very happy to see us. He gave us his support and said it was good that we were at the fair. He thought we should stand up to the newspapers and let them know if they write bad things about us.
A famous TV producer and TV host accepted our information and listened to what we had to say. We told him about the self-immolation in Beijing in January 2001, and he was not surprised that the Chinese dictatorship had arranged such a sly set-up to fool the Chinese people. A famous singer/songwriter and author was very positive towards us and talked to us for a long time about Falun Gong and the persecution. He said he wants to come to the practice site in Stockholm to try Falun Gong for himself. A very well-known author and film director was also very happy to see us. He had, for long time, wondered what Falun Gong was and had been waiting to get our information.
We noticed in general that many people know of Falun Gong. All kinds of people support us and find the persecution of Falun Gong totally incomprehensible.
