On February 19, 2000, I went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for a stop to the persecution of Falun Dafa. When I came back and was illegally imprisoned in the local police station, the police said a lot of disrespectful things about Teacher Li and Falun Dafa. I clarified the truth to them with compassion. Based on questions they raised, I suggested: "There are Falun Dafa books in your police station. You may take a look at them to see what my Teacher's original words really are." A few moments later, a police officer nodded to the director, meaning that the words were found. A large and tall police officer then said: "How come CCTV lied to us?" Since then I have not heard that large policeman say anything disrespectful about Falun Dafa. After that, whenever he saw me he would call me "elder sister."
During the day and night that I was detained in the local police station, I thoroughly cleaned every room there. Later I was imprisoned in a detention centre, in a temporarily built room called "Number 20." It was a cold winter, and there was no heating in the room. There was one big simple bed with only one blanket and no other bedding. Water drops covered the ceiling and walls. In the evening, the bed was so crowded that seven or eight people had to take turns to stand up at night. Family members of Falun Dafa practitioners were not allowed to visit the detention centre and the prices of goods sold inside the station were two to three times higher than normal. I had been illegally imprisoned for one month, and was illegally fined 1000 Yuan when I released. [1000 Yuan is about two months salary for an average Chinese urban worker]
2. Going to Beijing to Appeal for a Second Time, and Returning Home Safely
On July 1, 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa and was arrested. A policeman figured out which city I came from based on my accent. After contacting the Beijing branch office of my city and planning to get someone take me back, he suddenly asked: "Do you know what will happen to you after you are sent back?" I replied: "I might be sent to a forced labour camp." He asked "Have you come here before? Why did you come back again?" I said: "I'm appealing for my Teacher, for Falun Dafa, and for those Falun Dafa practitioners who are illegally imprisoned." The policeman said: "That's really great, it's not for yourself. OK, I am unable to handle things above my level of duty, but it is within my power to let you go." So I returned home safely. I was very happy with the righteous behaviour of that particular policeman.
At around 9 pm the day after I returned home, two police officers came to my home to arrest me. They said that my appealing for Falun Dafa in Beijing brought trouble to them and disrupted social order, and that I must be sent to a detention centre. I refused to follow their orders and maintained righteous thoughts. My husband also helped me. The police then made a phone call to their supervisor for advice. The supervisor asked "How is her attitude?" "Is it very nice." "Then let her stay home!" The police then walked away.
3. Righteous Words Frighten the Police
On July 22, 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal again. Although I was inspected and questioned several times by the public security personnel, I was able to handle it well. In those special days, there were more than ten police vehicles used to seize Falun Dafa practitioners in Tiananmen Square. At around ten o'clock in the morning, I was seized and taken to the police station. There were five long lines filled with Falun Dafa practitioners. When the authorities came to videotape the proceedings, I immediately took the lead and began to recite Teacher Li's poems from Hongyin. The police from upstairs doused us with cold water, they were unable to keep us from reciting the teachings of Falun Dafa.
The police later pushed us onto a long bus which was filled to its maximum capacity, and sent us to the Huairou Detention Centre in Beijing. Since I did not tell them my name, I was numbered 230. My clothes were completely stripped off for inspection. I was menstruating and my sanitary napkins were confiscated from me. We were then locked in cells. The police would not allow us to buy any daily necessities, and withheld toiletries, clothes, and other things that we brought with us. When the police chief in the detention centre was on duty and discovered from the monitor that an elderly Falun Dafa practitioner from Wuhan City, Hubei Province was practising the Falun Gong exercises, he called the elderly practitioner over to the courtyard, he then proceeded to slap his face more than 10 times, and forced the practitioner to stand under the burning summer sun for hours on end. Another practitioner who was sitting and practising the Falun Gong meditation exercise was shocked with an electric baton, slapped across his face and burnt with a cigarette by a police chief whose last name is Ma. The practitioner's hands were covered with burn marks from the cigarette. He was forced to hold his arms and legs stretched out and wasn't allowed to move, he was later handcuffed and put in a prison cell. In order to protest the police's persecution towards the Falun Dafa practitioners, I took the lead in a hunger strike and was shocked with an electric baton. Because of the strong righteous thoughts from all the practitioners, the police removed the handcuffs from that fellow practitioner.
While I was illegally imprisoned, I was often interrogated, sometimes twice a day. To force me to tell my name and address, I was frequently threatened by the police. After having my picture taken, police from all over were still unable to identify me. During my interrogation, the police threatened me: "Even if you don't tell us your name, you will still be sentenced to forced labour." "If you still don't tell us who you are, we will use various methods of torture on you." I said: "If you want my arms, my legs, or my head, you can take them." At that, he was frightened. After a while, he talked with another interrogator: "I have talked to her for more than an hour, yet it has all been in vain. Nothing can shake her." I was released after being illegally imprisoned for thirteen days.
After returning home, the local police called me to the station, saying the director wanted to talk to me. I was not allowed to go home. I saw that the police station was very dirty, so I cleaned up the glass and tables, and swept the floor. That afternoon all the police officers in the station were at a meeting, I was cleaning a spittoon in the corridor when I accidentally overheard the director mentioning my name, and he said, "The corridor and stairs are cleaned so well. I hope that everybody can keep them clean."
When it was around dinner time, my husband went to the local police station to demand my release. The police director said to me: "You must be very tired, please go home." He escorted my husband and I politely downstairs, and we then left for home.
