In July of 2001, steadfast in his belief, Shang refused to cooperate with the evildoers and was forced to leave home and move from place to place to avoid further persecution. This caused quite a stir in the local area. People felt, "Such an honest and upright practitioner. What's the big deal! And he was forced from home like that. It seems impossible to be a good person these days."
After Shang's situation was revealed, police in the Shijiazhuang City Police Station were very upset. They teamed up with the Zhengding County Police Station and other area police, making use of large quantities of material, money, and human resources to find him. They went to Beijing, Tianjing, Taiyuan, Handan, Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, and over 10 other counties, spent over 100,000 Yuan, (it is has been said by some people that a million Yuan was spent) and used all means, devious and otherwise, to locate Shang. For over a year Shang experienced dangerous situations one after another, and eventually last year he was arrested. Many of Shang's relatives and friends were involved, including his driver, who was held against his will for over 10 days, but he has refused to say anything. [Yuan is the Chinese currency. The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan.]
At the detention centre, Shang has submitted his appeal to the medium court, and plans to defend himself.
