On July 4th, the Danish Falun Dafa Association received an official letter from the civil and police department of the Danish Ministry of Justice. The letter read, “According to Article 79 of the basic law, residents have the right to organize a peaceful assembly without gaining permission in advance. However, the article does not mean that in the process of the demonstration no limitation should be imposed in advance. For example, the police can impose limitations on some violent behaviour, or other behaviours like this; it is the responsibility of the police to guarantee the safety of the demonstrators….According to Article 8 of the police administration law, the Gentofte police have the right to move away the (Falun Gong) demonstrators to lighten the burden of parking and driving to the embassy through the main entrance. Also the demonstration (of Falun Gong) has become a long-term activity…Through careful investigation the Ministry of Justice thinks that the reasons stated by the Gentofte police station are insufficient to alter the demonstration site of Falun Dafa.”
The whole event can be traced back to one day in the latter half of August. The Dafa practitioners, who sent forth righteous thoughts and made peaceful appeals in front of the Chinese embassy in Denmark every day, were suddenly asked to leave. Without any explanation, the local police sternly ordered the practitioners to leave the site opposite the main entrance of the Chinese embassy and to make appeals around the corner 24 metres away.
Later, we realized that the Chinese embassy had written a letter to high-ranking police officials to complain about our appeal. In the letter, the Chinese embassy took advantage of June 4th when many other groups, besides Falun Gong practitioners, made their protests. The Chinese officials tried to confuse the officials by intentionally implying that the protest methods used by other groups were part of Dafa practitioners’ peaceful appeal. The embassy took advantage of the fact that the Danish police still did not have a good enough understanding of Falun Gong. In this way, the Chinese embassy launched slanderous attacks against us.
In the past few years, the Gentofte police have developed a very deep understanding of Falun Gong practitioners’ peacefulness, friendliness, law-abiding nature and willingness to cooperate with the police. Therefore, the local police cared nothing about the unreasonable and frequent complaints and demands of the Chinese embassy. This time the embassy sent their complaint letter directly to the high-ranking police officials rather than the local police. This put the local police under a lot of pressure from their supervisors to move the Falun Gong practitioners to a site at least ten metres away from the embassy.
To counter this deviated form of persecution adopted by the Embassy officials, the Danish Dafa practitioners immediately exposed this human rights violation in a democratic country to the government, the media, and the society, through all possible methods and channels. In a very short time, the event drew a great deal of criticism from the Danish public. Moreover, the Human Rights Committee of the Danish Parliament directly inquired about the issue and held a meeting to learn the facts from practitioners and to question the Foreign Minister over the issue. The vice-chair of the Human Rights Committee was interviewed on TV, criticizing the behaviour of the police. When the chief of the local police station was interviewed, he would not directly answer questions from the reporter and just said something ambiguous. Under overwhelming pressure from the society, one week later the local police notified us to move back to a site near our original demonstration site, but not opposite the main entrance of the embassy.
We asked for the reason. The chief of the police station answered with difficulty, “Anyway it’s just a few meters away from your original site and there will be no influence on you.” We came to realize that we did nothing wrong so that to move even one metre from the original site was unacceptable. This was an extension of Jiang’s persecution to overseas countries, and was also an evil arrangement intended to affect the future of the Danish people. In the process, we comprehensively told the facts to the police station and the society.
Because the police still insisted on their original decision, we appealed to the Danish Ministry of Justice in December 2002. During the six-month wait, we regarded the event as a typical example of extension of Jiang’s persecution to overseas countries. We told the facts to the Danish government, the parliament and the society, and expressed our understanding of the event to the Ministry of Justice. Meanwhile, the Danish Ministry of Justice came to the awareness that the case was related to the basic human rights of Danish people. Through careful consideration and examination, the Danish government finally put the emphasis on Danish people’s great understanding of the importance of human rights, democracy and peace. Finally a wise decision was made.
After peaceful and reasonable efforts over a whole year, we came back to the original site opposite the main entrance of the Chinese embassy on July 7th. Shortly after we poeacefully sat down to send forth righteous thoughts, two policemen were summoned by the Chinese embassy staff.
We asked them, “Did you receive the letter from the Ministry of Justice?” They replied, “Yes, but the Chinese embassy said that you blocked the passage of the cars.” Practitioners stated, “A few minutes ago, there was a car going through the main entrance. In fact, their 24-hour CCTV camera can give a sufficient explanation. They could get the film of us blocking the traffic.” “Yes, we can see that you are unlikely to block their way,” the two policemen concluded in a friendly manner.
Next, we introduced Falun Dafa and the Jiang regime’s persecution to the policemen. They took a deep interest in the truth. Once again the evil failed in the battle between good and evil in front of the Chinese embassy after the kind and upright Danish government and people understood the truth of Dafa. The issue came to an end, but our truth-clarification did not. We know that a great number of people are still waiting to understand the truth of Dafa. We still have to continue telling the facts to people from all walks of life, including the embassy officials who are still carrying out Jiang’s orders. Because the days of this persecution are numbered, everyone should think carefully about their own future.
