Letter from European Falun Dafa Association to the International Criminal Court

To the International Criminal Court, to all whom it may concern

With the celebration of the World Day for International Justice we’d like to congratulate the ICC on its establishment, a great accomplishment that is a validation for justice. The role of the ICC in the international community is already considerable in that it forces people to think twice about committing crimes against humanity and thus providing a sense of security and peace.

Unfortunately the jurisdiction of the ICC is not yet world wide, since many countries did not ratify the Rome Statute. In this regard we’d like to inform you about a crime against humanity that will enter its fifth year on July 20th. It concerns the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, the genocide of over 70 million people. This persecution is unprecedented in cruelty and scale. Basic human rights, like freedom of speech and freedom of belief are shamelessly violated. Thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been killed by torture, hundreds of thousands have been sent to labour camps or prison, most of them without a legal trial. Even a ‘gestapo’-like organisation has been established with the sole purpose of tracking down and persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

Since the start of this brutal campaign, Falun Gong practitioners, human rights organisations and leaders of the international community have asked for a peaceful dialogue and an independent investigation on the motives to persecute this peaceful spiritual movement, that abides by Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. The Chinese authorities did not answer this call and even intensified their persecution several times. Through media and in person, Falun Gong practitioners outside of China have informed their governments, human rights organisations and the public about the human rights violations taking place in China. Though these efforts have lessened the effects of the persecution, the genocide still continues.
With this letter we hope to find support in waking up the international community and make it realise the importance of international justice in order to stop all forms of genocide and crimes against humanity. We hope the ICC will gain global jurisdiction eventually.
