Mr. Gao Jidong, 36 years old, staff member in the Changchun Branch of the Bureau of Taxation in Jilin Province, was among the first group of practitioners taken to the Xinglongshan Brainwashing Centre. He had already started a hunger strike to protest the persecution several days before being brought to the centre. The hunger strike continued for 5-6 days. Then the police force-fed him. We could hear his yelling in pain and his vomiting, amidst the yells of the police. He was force-fed 1-2 times each day, which continued for about 4-5 days. Then he started to vomit blood. The police suspected that his stomach was injured and were afraid so they stopped the procedure. Mr Gao was as thin as bones wrapped in skin. In order to avoid taking responsibility, the brainwashing centre called Mr Gao's father and lured him with all kinds of excuses to sign a piece of paper allowing them to "continue with forced feeding or intravenous injections of glucose and salt." The old man was heartbroken to see his son suffering from the torture. Unwillingly he signed his name "agreeing to intravenous drips." Later on Mr Gao's health condition worsened and was diagnosed by the hospital as having a stomach ulcer with a recommendation of hospitalisation. This way, Mr Gao nobly broke out of the den with his iron strong will.
