The Japanese newspaper Mainichi from Kouchi County reported on August 9th, 2003: In order to rescue 38-year-old KanekoYoko, a former resident of Niigata-ken who is currently being detained in a labour camp in China, members of the "Alliance for Rescuing KanekoYoko" visited Kouchi County Government on the 8th as a part of their appeal trip around the country. They delivered an appeal letter to the chief of the county government secretary section in which they requested that Kouchi County call upon the Japanese government to urge the Chinese government to release Yoko Kaneko. According to these members, Yoko Kaneko, whose nationality is Chinese, went back to China in May of last year, and was arrested when distributing Falun Gong flyers, and she is currently being held at a labour camp.
The Alliance members who met with journalists pointed out that aside from Yoko Kaneko, other detained Falun Gong practitioners are also being treated with violence and persecution in China. They hope more people can learn about the current persecution against Yoko Kaneko and other Falun Gong practitioners in China, and to rescue Yoko Kaneko as soon as possible. These Alliance members will collect signatures in support of their cause at the Kouchi County train station until August 10th.
