Hosted by the American Foreign Policies Institute and the Euro-American Section of the Research Centre of International Relationship in Taipei National Politics University, Sino-America Research and Discussion Conference for China's General Affairs took place recently in the College of Law of Pennsylvania University.
Mark Palmer, who is also vice-president of the famous American humanity organization Freedom House and a former American ambassador to Hungary, gave the concluding speech, in which he highly praised Falun Gong practitioners' effort to clarify the truth to the Chinese people.
Palmer said that due to their lack of money, Falun Gong practitioners could not transmit high-powered electromagnetic waves and only were able to intercept TV signals of China's Central TV. They are admirable he says. He also said that it would be better if Falun Gong practitioners possessed high-powered satellite antennas.
When introducing Mr. Palmer, the host of the conference said that Palmer has always been at the forefront in promoting freedom and democracy. He is also an active initiator of the conception of the non-violence resistance.
Mr. Palmer introduced his new book, Breaking the Axis of Evil: How to Oust the World's Last Dictators by 2025, which will be published in October this year. The book talks about how to bring the democracy to the whole world without using violence. This is also the current focus of Mr. Palmer's work.
Palmer told experts, professors, researchers, scholars, students, and news media from different countries that the most influential dictatorship in the world is China. 60% of the whole population in the world that is unable to live in an environment of freedom. Among the dictators all over the world, China's Jiang Zemin is the most notorious one.
Palmer reminded everyone that embassies of many countries could do a lot of things in promoting democracy. All embassies from democratic countries can promote democracy, just like "Freedom House."
For example, it would be very good that ambassadors from western countries go to Tiananmen Square to practice Falun Gong, not necessarily saying anything, but just quietly practicing, like Falun Gong practitioners from the United States and other western countries did.
It would be very good and it will promote China's move toward freedom. In his opinion, although Falun Gong does not have any means of political appeal in China, its firm and indomitable spirit, as well as its continuing resistance will awaken people, especially the generation of young people, in understanding the concepts of humanity and democracy. It may also exert an influence on the way the Chinese leaders think.
