On the 8th of October 2003, Falun Dafa practitioners organised a performance in Cambridge city centre to celebrate the first Cambridge Falun Dafa week. Speeches were given at the opening ceremony by Peter Jauhal, Cambridge University alumnus and chairman of the UK Falun Dafa Association, and Lord Thurlow. The Deputy Mayor of Cambridge also sent a message of congratulations and support.

91-year-old Lord Thurlow spoke about the crimes committed by Jiang Zemin and his regime in their persecution of Falun Gong, and also about how Falun Dafa has brought benefits to people all over the world. His speech ended with a big round of applause from the public. Lord Thurlow was once a respected diplomat and member of the House of Lords. He said that Falun Dafa gave him a new life.

As well as a Falun Gong exercise demonstration, musical performance and traditional Chinese lion dance and fan dance, there was also a public trial of the criminal Jiang, which exposed his shameful persecution of Falun Gong in detail. UK practitioners Mrs. Liang, whose sister was unlawfully detained and brutally persecuted in a forced labour camp, and Dr. Weiguo Xie, whose fiancée is illegally detained in China at the moment, were both witnesses in this public trial, which judged the Chinese dictator through the laws of morality and justice.

Chinese and western people all carefully read the posters about the lawsuit against Jiang and his human rights crimes. An elderly person who was with his granddaughter happily watched the practitioners’ performances and expressed hope that Jiang will be successfully brought to justice like the former leader of Yugoslavia. He felt very happy that evil people cannot escape punishment. He said, “I saw Falun Gong practitioners and all they do are exercises. There isn’t anything wrong with that and it’s got nothing to do with politics.” A Japanese doctor who works in Cambridge felt that the persecution of Falun Gong is unfair. He also realised that letting more people know the truth about Falun Gong can help the practitioners.

During the performance, a kind-hearted English lady wanted to donate some money to practitioners so that she could help print leaflets to let more people learn the truth about Falun Gong. After she learned that practitioners do not accept donations, she was very disappointed but said that she will find another way to help practitioners clarify the facts.
