Australia: Telling the Story of Liu Chengjun to People in Brisbane

On November 1, 2003, Falun Dafa practitioners in Southern Queens Province held activities at the City centre in order to tell the general public in Brisbane how Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Chengjun is dying because he has been severely tortured, and to tell about the nearly 100 Falun Dafa practitioners who are on hunger strike to protest the persecution.

Falun Dafa practitioners obtained permission to hold activities on the George King Square in front of the City Hall on each Saturday in November. They came on November 1st to pass out flyers, and described to people the situations of Liu Chengjun and other Falun Dafa practitioners being tortured in the prisons. There was an information table along with banners and photos which were displayed on the square. Practitioners collected many signatures calling for the Australian government to take a stand seeking justice for those family members of Australian citizens who are jailed and tortured in labour camps in China.

Some practitioners held a symbolic trial of the former Chinese Chairman, Jiang Zemin, so that Chinese tourists could learn about his crime of persecuting Falun Gong, and come to know Jiang has been sued in many countries for genocide and crimes against humanity. Chinese tourist groups often come to the City Hall. There were many groups passing by who were able to see the display. Although some of them are still being deceived by the lies and propaganda, more and more people could see the truth, and accepted the flyers, and some of them even said, "Falun Gong is good."

The display on the square contained photos showing how Falun Dafa is spreading all over the world. Falun Dafa practitioners spent the whole morning doing exercise demonstrations that attracted a lot of attention. Many Chinese tourists took photos. Some local people talked with Dafa practitioners in order to further understand the situation of this persecution in China. Some of them learnt the exercises on the spot. Others requested group practise site information so that they could visit later.

From 6 PM to 8:15 PM, practitioners held a candlelight vigil surrounded by poster boards, banners, wreaths, and pictures of fellow practitioners who have been tortured to death. Many people came over to seek flyers, etc., and signed their names to a huge 6 meter banner.

The atmosphere was very solemn, and mighty that evening. Practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts every half hour, forming a strong field of righteous thoughts, which attracted many people. No one could understand why the Chinese government would cruelly persecute such a peaceful practise, and they expressed great concern for the current situation of Falun Dafa practitioners in China.
