At the recent David Bowie concert held in Dublin, two human rights groups were invited to attend: the Irish section of Amnesty International and the Irish Friends of Falun Gong (FOFG).
Thousands attended the concert and the attendees had an excellent chance to learn about the situation of persecuted Falun Gong in China.
Four FOFG volunteers attended each night. They displayed a table, decorated it with flowers, and set it at a prominent location inside the concert hall. Flyers were distributed and signatures collected. The signatures called for the release of two Dublin city students, Mr. Liu Feng and Ms. Yang Fang.
Many people stopped to talk to the volunteers after they learned the facts of the persecution. Afterwards talking with volunteers, some called their friends and brought them over to our stand to sign the petition too.
The following are some comments from people that signed the petition: ‘Set them free!’ ‘Freedom to practice’, ‘Hope you succeed’, and ‘I give you all my support, we need to safeguard human rights.’
Overall, the event was a great success, as many more people got the chance to hear about the persecution and had the chance to act to bring it to an early end.
