The former Berlin University student Ms. Xiong Wei, who was illegally detained for almost two years for distributing Falun Gong leaflets in Beijing, was recently released on January 4th 2004.
During these two years, German and Israeli practitioners received both sympathy and support from government officials and other individuals while appealing for Xiong Wei’s release.
One German practitioner described the responses he received after he telling people that Xiong Wei had been released: “After hearing the news of Xiong Wei’s release, I went to several stores where I put the “Free Xiong Wei” postcards and told them the good news. I express my appreciation to them by giving the workers Dafa postcards with pictures of Lilies on them.
One storeowner took a lot of time to ask about the persecution of Falun Gong and also said that he will support all of Dafa practitioners' activities.
A print shop had even printed many T-shirts, which had the words “Free Xiong Wei” on them. When a clerk was told the news of Xiong Wei’s release, his whole face lit up and he said, “What? Released? This news has made my day!”
Many German practitioners also told their relatives, friends and coworkers the news, and extended their appreciation for their support.
Some people also said that they admired the relentless effort and the peaceful, rational demonstrations made by Falun Gong practitioners.
