January the 17th was the last weekend before the Chinese New Year. On this day, Falun Gong practitioners held large-scale activities to celebrate Chinese New Year on the streets of the Welsh capital, Cardiff. Falun Gong’s peaceful, graceful exercises and beautiful music attracted the attention of many passers-by. This event helped many people to understand Dafa more deeply and learn more about the brutal persecution in China. A petition to rescue Falun Gong practitioners’ persecuted relatives and friends in China received warm support and feedback from local people.
The entire day’s activity featured Falun Gong exercise demonstrations, traditional Chinese dancing; singing and musical performances. Performances in traditional Chinese costumes were the highlight of the activities. When female practitioners performed the fan dance along with the music of “Falun Dafa is Good", the official announcer mentioned that this performance had won the first prize at the Edinburgh Arts Festival. The audience deeply appreciated the performances and offered warm applause.
While the programme was in progress, practitioners distributed Dafa materials and talked to people about Falun Gong and the persecution. After learning about the real situation in China, many people wondered why Falun Gong has been suppressed. When they were signing their names to support the campaign to rescue Falun Gong practitioners’ relatives and to support the lawsuit against Jiang Zemin, practitioners stressed that these activities were entirely non-political and that their purpose was only to clarify the facts about Falun Gong and rescue the persecuted Chinese people.
Many people who were interested in the Falun Gong exercises asked for information about free classes to learn the exercises. A man who worked in a shop on the other side of the street watched the performances throughout the day while he was working. He came to the stand after work and said that he really appreciated the practitioners’ efforts and was very interested in Dafa. He also mentioned that he would come to the practice site to learn the exercises.
While passing by the scene, many Chinese people received truth-clarification materials. Some said that they already knew the facts about Falun Gong and as a result they joined the crowd to watch the performance. Some other Chinese people who came to Cardiff for sightseeing took photos of practitioners one after another. They said that they were surprised to learn that Dafa had spread to more than sixty countries and is popular around the world.
The activities on the streets finally concluded after practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts together. Even at the last minute, there were many people rushing to the Dafa booth to sign their names and find out more about Dafa.
