An unusual occurrence took place last Thursday morning outside Potsdam’s city hall: a group of young Chinese, clad in sporty attire lifted up transparencies. The observant among the passers-by recognized the purpose behind the action, that four Chinese nationals who are students in Germany wanted to raise awareness about the circumstances of the Falun Gong followers in their native country.
[..] Despite the movement’s a-political characteristics the Chinese government outlawed it in 1999.
In order to raise worldwide awareness of the massive persecution followers of Falun Gong in China have to endure, and the fact that they are risking their lives for publicly professing their belief system, many of the fellow practitioners who live abroad have held SOS marches on all continents. Three of the marching demonstrators and their female organizer arrived in Potsdam, the capital city of the state of Mark Brandenburg [Germany].
The men and women who participate in this undertaking hail from various provinces in China and range in ages from 26 to 31. They study in Berlin and Bochum, two German university cities and arrived in Potsdam on foot from Berlin the previous night. They are going to return to Berlin. Their work for SOS is not yet finished, however. Their eventual goal is to march to Munich. [..]
Questioned as to the motives for their march they responded that they wish to spread the truth about Falun Gong. The majority of people were not aware that this is a peaceful mission and the tenets of Falun Gong have as its goal to teach each individual to become a better person.
Thirty-one-year-old Zhi-Hong Zheng said it this way, “When all people realize the truth about Falun Gong, the situation in China will change.”
