I had come to Paris to tell Parisians the facts about Falun Gong. Once again wearing my bright yellow scarf and standing on the street of Paris, I felt especially close to the city, like I’d been there countless times. I paid more attention to Parisians’ smiles and the warmth from their hearts. With Falun Gong flyers in my hands, it felt lilke I was not a tourist but a friend of Paris.
From the 24th to the 28th of January, during the time of the China-France cultural parade and Hu Jintao’s visit to France, several incidents of Falun Gong practitioners being arrested and detained for no reason by police on the streets occurred because of the French government’s economic interests and pressure from the Chinese regime.
After the incident occurred, Falun Gong practitioners in France and other European countries wanted like to let more French people know the truth about Falun Gong, Jiang Zemin’s ruthless oppression of Falun Gong practitioners, and the unreasonable conduct of the French police.
Tens of thousands of Falun Gong flyers were printed out in a rush. Practitioners in Paris found ways to explain to people the facts about Falun Gong all over the city. Practitioners from other countries came to Paris to offer support. Luxembourg Palace is where the French Parliament was located. Napoleon once worked here while serving as First Consul around 1800. Luxembourg Palace is one of the most brilliant architectural sites in Paris. The Luxembourg Garden is a good place for relaxing. Standing outside the park, I handed out flyers to passers-by.
I used three or four French words, which were all I knew: “Bonjour, Madame” (Good day Madam) and ”Bonjour Monsieur” (Good day Sir). Actually, we did not need too many words. Our presence, our yellow scarves, the words “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance” on the scarves and smiles from our hearts was the best language. The clear-minded side of ordinary people understood. They responded with smiles. At the moment when I handed out flyers, the words of “Bonjour” and “Merci” (Thanks) expressed everything I needed to say.
One lady read the flyer right after she received it. She pointed to the flyer and asked me, “What is Falun Gong?” I told her in English, “Falun Gong is a cultivation way of the Buddha School originating in China, with the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.” I showed her my yellow scarf and she asked me, “Why is Falun Gong suppressed in China?” I told her, “Because there are too many people practising Falun Gong, so it’s not allowed by the Communist Government.” She said, “Oh! I understand.” In fact, Westerners understand the Communist government very well. “But you see”, I pointed to the pictures of the French police arresting practitioners, “For economic interests and under pressure from the Chinese Government, the French Government does not allow us to stand on the streets.” She said, “I know. I would like to apologise to you. The French Government should not have done this” “Thanks for your support!” I shook her hand and said goodbye.
Another lady read the flyer and showed her willingness to sign an appeal letter to the French government. “I wish you success”, she said.
Sometimes there were too many people and I could not distribute the flyers to everyone in time. Predestined people would especially stop and wait or came towards me to ask for flyers. Some people did not accept a flyer in the beginning but would turn back after a few steps. It seemed that they sensed something and took the initiative to obtain a flyer. People have been waiting for this moment and it is our noble duty to tell them the facts.
