My husband has an interest in Falun Gong [although he has not started cultivating in Falun Dafa yet.] He is also the principal of a local Chinese school. Because he has recently published an advertisement in the newspapers about the coming new semester, we often received phone calls to our house enquiring about the Chinese school.
Several days ago, a woman called our home about the Chinese school when my husband was not home, so I tried to help her with her questions. She told me she was from Wuhan City, China. She told me she had received an advanced degree in education, and had lots of experience teaching. She moved to our area two weeks earlier, and had been trying to find a local Chinese school for her children and a teaching job for herself where she could apply her education and experience. I told her that good teachers are welcomed at every Chinese school, but I also explained to her that our school mainly taught traditional Chinese characters and used teaching materials written with Taiwanese phonetic symbols instead of Mainland Chinese pinyin. I also invited her to visit our school and take at look at our teaching materials so she could decide if she was interested in teaching in our school. I said that there were other Chinese schools in our local community that used mostly simplified Chinese characters and teaching materials written with Mainland Chinese pinyin. She hesitated for a moment and admitted that she was not very familiar with traditional Chinese characters and the Taiwanese phonetic symbol system. Then she asked if I could give her the contact information of some another Chinese schools.
While I was looking in my phone book for other Chinese schools, I explained to her that my husband’s school is held on every Sunday while I teach at Minghui School every Saturday. I went on to say that the principles of the Minghui School were the same as those of Falun Gong and that the volunteer faculty taught the students to conduct themselves according to Falun Gong’s cultivation principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance and to conduct themselves with morality.
After I gave her the phone numbers of other Chinese schools in the area, she said, “Of the three principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, you have scored high on Compassion!” Her compliment took me by surprise. I said, “I am only doing what I should do!” As soon as I answered her call, I kept thinking how to find a way to mention Minghui School to her so that I could clarify the truth about Falun Gong to her through introducing the school principles of Minghui School. But it had never once crossed my mind that she was evaluating my speech and manners the whole time.
The world’s people may learn the truth about Falun Dafa from our actions and manners, so we should definitely pay constant attention to improving and refining our behaviour.
