A Story about a Teacher Who Practises Falun Gong in Taiwan

According to Clearwisdom.net, because of practising Falun Gong, many teachers in mainland China are persecuted and are forced to leave their campuses. Some are then sent to forced labour camps for re-education; some are forced to leave their homes and wander around. I was deeply moved by their sufferings. I am also a teacher who Practises Falun Gong, but I am so lucky to be born in Taiwan. Not only can I practise and spread Falun Gong freely, but I can also introduce Dafa into the campus to let many teachers and students learn Dafa.

I. Studying the teachings of Falun Gong and the improvement of my moral nature.

Before I obtain the Fa [law and principles in Falun Gong], I used to be a stern teacher. Due to my strong sense of responsibility, I couldn’t tolerate the students who goofed around. I even didn’t allow them to leave a piece of paper on the ground. Failing to meet my requirements, they were subject to my reprimands and even corporal punishment. Some of them were even beaten severely. Once I went to visit the family of a student who was sloppy and often failed to do his homework. His family was so poor that their place was in a mess without a desk. When I asked my student how he did his homework, he simply pointed to a small stool on the ground. I finally realised the reason why he didn’t like to do his schoolwork. I felt very sorry about that, and regretted failing to care about others. Shortly after that, I obtained the Fa. After reading Zhuan Falun [Turning The Law Wheel – a book containing the main principles of Falun Gong] I finally noticed that I was so selfish, and cared so much about “fame” in the past. I suddenly learned that a “truly good teacher” is supposed to implement “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance” in his or her daily life.

After practising Falun Gong, my personality has changed a lot, and my students have become closer to me. I found that if I had no patience with mean students, they wouldn’t change at all; only after I persuaded them with righteous thoughts, could they be changed. Some of the students were ill-tempered and had terrible interpersonal relationships. In fact, they were worried about that; I thus told them the principles of “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.” To my surprise, they remembered all what I told them, and made a lot of improvements. Once a student even happily came to tell me: “Teacher, I didn’t lose my temper at all today.”

II. Helping my colleagues obtain the Fa.

The first day I reported to school about three years ago, I bumped into a former colleague surnamed Wang who used to teach in another school with me. I greeted her, but she didn’t recognise me. After I mentioned something happening in the past to arouse her memory, she finally recalled who I was. However, she was too surprised to utter a word, saying that I had changed so much, because not only did I look younger, but I also become outgoing and energetic. I told her that it is because I practise Falun Gong. She said now that Falun Gong is so good, she wanted to learn Falun Gong also. The following day, the entire school knew that the new teacher is a Falun Gong practitioner, and Falun Gong is a very good cultivation practice. Indeed, Ms. Wang had promoted Dafa well.

Soon after that, the principal, directors, teachers, nurses and janitors started to take advantage of the leisure time in the afternoons to learn Falun Gong exercises from me one after another. Some of my colleagues often like to talk to me, telling me the unpleasant occurrences at work or in the family. Sometimes they might be driven to tears. After listening to their complaints, I might open Dafa books “Zhuan Falun” or “Essentials for Further Advancement” to read a passage of Master Li’s [referring to the founder of Falun Gong, Mr Li Hongzhi] articles for them. With my further analysis based on the Fa, my colleagues often cheered up right away, and said that Master Li is really great and Dafa is indeed wonderful. Once in a morning meeting, two of my colleagues were on the verge of a big argument due to their different viewpoints. I thus quickly approached the one who was very angry, and reminded her of the content in Lecture Four of Zhuan Falun. She then calmed down immediately. Afterwards, we decided to read Lecture Four of Zhuan Falun together. She soon became in a good mood, and said that it is really wonderful to obtain the Fa. She also regretted not being able to maintain a high moral character.

III. Spreading the Fa to my students.

In the last scholastic year, I taught a special-teaching class with only six students. Most of them were mentally retarded students and one of them suffered from autism. Though it is hard to communicate with him, he had a good memory and had a talent for drawing. One day I introduced Falun Dafa to him. Much to my surprise, upon seeing the Falun emblem, he started to draw it. After school, he continued to draw the Falun emblem again and again. He did it wonderfully with beautiful colours. Another one is a learning retarded student who was illiterate. I introduced Dafa to him and taught him to learn the characters of “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.” I thought that he might not be able to remember these words, but one day he ended up telling me that on his way to town on the previous day he saw the characters “Falun Dafa is the best cultivation practice in the world” on the bus. In fact, what he saw on the bus was “Falun Dafa is good.” Afterwards, this student’s character-learning ability was greatly improved, and he finally could read the textbooks fluently.

A student in my mathematics class had a terrible interpersonal relationship due to her poor scholastic performance and lack of confidence. Since she was told that practising Falun Gong can inspire people’s wisdom and improve her studies, she asked me to teach her Falun Gong exercises. I taught her the exercises during the breaks. Shortly afterwards, she took one of her classmates who had poor scholastic performance to learn the exercises. Another student often complained to me that her younger brother with poor heath and a bad temper was the problem of her family. Since she learned that practising Falun Gong can improve health and upgrade morality she asked me if I could teach her younger brother the exercises. Therefore, she took her younger brother from a kindergarten nearby after school to learn the exercises. Soon after that, this student told me that “Falun Gong is very effective” and that not only was her younger brother’s health back to normal, but his temper also became good.

I took advantage of all kinds of opportunities to introduce Dafa to others in school. During the SARS scare last year, everybody was very nervous. At a morning rally during the week when it was my turn to supervise the overall security matters, I especially included Falun Gong’s effectiveness in keeping fit and uplifting human immunity into my presentation about the promotion of SARS prevention. Whenever I came across students’ parents or others in school, I often introduced Dafa to them. All those who know the benefit of cultivation would like to learn Dafa.

IV. Establishing a Falun Gong club on campus.

Though the school I am teaching is a tiny one with some 500 students, there are ten extracurricular clubs, which hold activities in the first period on every Wednesday. Originally the principal didn’t fully agree to set up a Falun Gong Club on campus because extracurricular activities are conducted during the office hours. I thus collected two volumes of information from Dafa-related websites, including keeping fit, popularity of Dafa around the world, awards given by various countries and facts of the persecution, to explain the facts to the principal. After knowing the fact, he fully supported my proposal and expressed that he also would like to learn the exercises. Afterwards, some parents complained to the principal and asked why students practised Falun Gong in school. However, the principal righteously replied: “What’s the problem with Falun Gong? I myself practise Falun Gong too.”

In every semester there are about twenty students joining the Falun Gong practising Club. Their activities include Fa-study, practising the exercises, watching videos and singing. After learning Dafa, students not only study harder, behave better and know how to get rid of conflicts with others, but they also have a better relationship with other classmates and their family members. The main reason for attracting students to practise the exercises is that after practising the exercises they have become much happier and healthier. Outgoing and vigorous students tend to like the fifth set of the exercises better. Some students who used to think that they could not sit still for a long period turned out to enjoy the state of tranquillity without distracting thoughts. Some parents mentioned that it is good for students to practise Falun Gong because it is good for their body and mind. In May of the year before last the school’s tenth anniversary coincided with Falun Dafa’s tenth anniversary. The school’s Falun Gong practising Club together with a group of local Falun Gong practitioners demonstrated the five sets of the exercises in a celebration ceremony. Their performance was highly praised, and many people wanted to know where they could learn the Falun Gong exercises.

There is a student whose celestial eye is open as long as he Practises the exercises. What he saw was identical to what is mentioned in Zhuan Falun. For instance, he saw Master Li was safeguarding us one by one while we were practising the exercises. At that time, he was simply in the process of studying Hongyin [A Collection of Poems], and has yet to study Zhuan Falun. He asked me if Master Li has many Law Bodies like the “Monkey King” in a classical Chinese novel “The Journey to the West.” This student also saw many evil beings in other dimensions, being eliminated by practitioners while we were sending forth righteous thoughts. After reading the Great Consummation Way of Falun Dafa, a sixth grader said: “I’ll definitely succeed in cultivation!” The next day after reading Zhuan Falun, he came to me and told me: “Teacher, why did you not introduce Falun Gong to me until now?” I replied that it is not too late to learn it now after all.

V. Including Dafa’s content into my teaching.

This semester, I am a subject teacher who teaches six classes on four different subjects. The materials I use in the reading class for the fifth and sixth graders are all from Dafa websites. All the students enjoy reading them very much. Those articles are unique and have far-reaching meanings, and can inspire students’ righteous thoughts. The feedback in their written reports is very wonderful and positive. Some teachers told me: “The classes that had been taught by you are different. The students are more obedient, mature and cooperative.” Thereby I shared my secret with them, i.e. reading Dafa articles can make a difference. I was also surprised to learn that the articles written by Dafa practitioners should be so powerful.

On the subject about science, a chapter is introducing water’s three phases. I thus introduced water’s crystal experiments to my students together with the righteous thoughts experiments on campus. The students were amazed by the experiments. They expressed that they would send forth righteous thoughts from time to time, and would not speak ill of others or fight with others from then on. In the athletic and health class besides introducing Falun Gong’s miracles of healing and keeping fit, I also taught them the way to meditate. Many students expressed that it was very good to calm down and that practising sitting meditation is very comfortable. In a class discussing the issues regarding old age, sickness and death, most students still held their pure and compassionate innate quality. They believed that after death there is another life, and heaven and reincarnation do exist in the universe; good begets good and evil is met with evil; evil people would go to hell. However, most people are afraid of old age and sickness. I then told them “cultivation” can solve these problems, and explained to them the content of cultivation as well as advised them on the way to be a righteous person.

In class, I would usually touch upon some short stories. Once I mentioned a story about a very popular goddess in Taiwan. She started to cultivate since she was very little. After succeeding in cultivation, she became a goddess safeguarding fishermen at sea. After telling this popular story, I asked my students if they would like to cultivate themselves and become a higher being. None of them gave a negative answer. Some even asked me how to cultivate themselves on the spot. I thus told them the content of cultivation, and said that Falun Dafa is the best cultivation practice, and remind them to be a kind-hearted person with the characteristics of “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.”

I posted the information regarding the popularity of Falun Dafa around the world, the facts about the self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square, and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China on the bulletin board in the classroom. After looking at the materials, many students were very angry and said that they would like to help return justice to Falun Gong. After learning the truth, many students told their parents the facts. One of them told me that his mother said that it was Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China who should be blamed; that’s why they are being persecuted. I told the students that those practitioners are kind-hearted people, and are not against any government. It was the Chinese government that should be blamed. The student then brought some truth-clarification materials home for his mother, and told her that after his teacher Practises Falun Gong, not only does she become very healthy, but she also become more beautiful, and no longer needs to wear glasses. Finally this student’s mother expressed that she wanted to learn Falun Gong.

I am still in the process of cultivation, and have ample room to improve. The purpose of writing this article is simply to let people know that the treatments for the teachers who practise Falun Gong between Taiwan and mainland China are absolutely different. In Taiwan, the teachers who practise Falun Gong are very popular, but those in mainland China are suppressed. I’d like to urge the mainland china authorities to stop the persecution of the teachers who practise Falun Gong.
