I am Yao Jiali's mother, and I am 95 years old. My daughter, Yao Jiali, is a chief pharmacist at the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Dongchuan District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. She has been persistent in her practice of Falun Gong. On July 27, at about 4 o'clock, six policemen suddenly broke into our home, and without giving any explanation, ransacked everything including our beds, wardrobe and flowerpot on the balcony. In the end, they took away two plastic bags full of things, and at the same time they arrested my daughter. She was held at the Mushulang Detention Centre, and no relatives were allowed to see her. My granddaughter sent her some clothing, but it did not reach her. No one knows what torture she has been subjected to.
Jiali lost her father when she was very young. As a peasant woman and a mother of four children, I had to do labour to earn working points in the production team, so I had no time to take care of them. When Jiali was six years old, she suffered from asthma after she ate some ice during the winter, but there was no medicine or doctors in that rural area. One reason she chose to study medicine was to cure her own disease. She became a chief pharmacist after she went to work in the Chinese medicine hospital. The cadres and the old doctors in the hospital cared about her very much, and they allowed her to take the best medicines in the hospital for her condition. However, she remained out of breath despite taking good amounts of liquid medicine, and large doses from big bottles by injections every day. Due to her disease, my son-in-law divorced her. As for me, I became disabled when I fell more than ten years ago, and I have been unable to walk since then. During these years, I have been dependent on Jiali for survival. She had to take care of me while raising the children, of which only I knew the hardship.
Jiali recovered from the disease after she started to practise Falun Gong in 1997. In the past seven years, her physical condition became better and better without taking any medicine or injections. At the same time, her temper improved, she always treated her cadres and colleagues with kindness, and the neighbours loved her. After seeing all these changes in her, I was very happy.
As a 95-year-old handicapped old woman, I am living with good health and good mental status. All these are attributed to my daughter's practice of Falun Gong, from which I benefit greatly. I know that Falun Gong is good, and the principle of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance is good, and that Falun Dafa is righteous.
I know that Falun Dafa teaches people to be good, and is capable of curing diseases and bringing people good health, both physically and mentally. I simply cannot understand why the government forbids such a practice, which is good both for the practitioners themselves and for the government.
I do know that the police are supposed to protect people from bad villains. My daughter didn't do anything bad. What crime did she commit by practising Falun Gong and trying to be a good person? Why did the police ransack my home, arrest my daughter, hold her in a detention centre, and forbid her relatives from seeing her?
My daughter didn't break any laws by practising Falun Gong. I hereby request that the police return my daughter. I hope that the government will take responsibility for its people. I ask all levels of governments and all levels of cadres to handle my case. My daughter is a good person, so please release her as soon as possible. She still has much to do in order to raise her children and take care of her old mother. I think that all levels of cadres also have parents, wives, and children, and should have a conscience.
