On Saturday the 4th of September, Jia Qinglin and the accompanying Chinese delegation visited the famous Spanish tourist site La Sagrada Familia Church.
La Sagrada Familia Church was very crowded. Streams of tourists from around the world came to visit the site. Falun Gong practitioners from Barcelona also came here to hold a peaceful appeal and expose to local residents and tourists the ongoing brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China.
At the site, a few Chinese officials from the delegation and Chinese Consulate arrived early and were waiting for Jia. When they saw Falun Gong practitioners holding a banner reading “Stop Persecuting Falun Gong”, one official from the delegation ran towards practitioners and tried to take the banner using force. Although he was stopped by the Consulate official and was not able to carry out his action, many passers-by witnessed clearly his violent and hooligan-like behaviour. This reminded people that if a Chinese official could behave violently without hesitation in a free and democratic country, in broad daylight and witnessed by so many people, it is not difficult to imagine how brutal and relentless the persecution is against innocent, kind and peaceful Falun Gong practitioners in China by the Jiang regime.
Two policemen immediately came to see what happened. One of them recognised that the people holding the peaceful appeal were Falun Gong practitioners. Because the police already learned the truth about the persecution and the peaceful nature of Falun Gong, they didn’t stop the peaceful appeal by practitioners, instead they said, “No problem. Please carry on with your activity.”
At around 11:00am, the motorcade carrying Jia Qinglin and the Chinese delegation arrived at the church. Upon getting out of the car, they immediately saw the Falun Dafa banners and practitioners. The leader of the delegation panicked and withdrew into the car again. They decided to use another entrance into the Church. But another group of practitioners was already waiting there with banners. The church only has two entrances. The delegation had no other way and they hurriedly went into the Church.
Their arrival attracted the attention of many tourists and passersby. Many people came to ask practitioners the reason for their appeal. Practitioners told them about Falun Gong and the persecution in China and gave out many leaflets. Many people found out more about Falun Gong.
Maybe the appearance of practitioners took the pleasure away from Jia’s appreciation of the church. Normally it would take at least one hour to look around the church. Jia Qinglin and the delegation came out after only ten minutes. They went in through one entrance, came out from another entrance and hurriedly drove away as they came.
In under a week, Jia Qinglin was first sued in Austria and then Spain for the crime of genocide. During his one and a half day stay in Barcelona, he met practitioners many times. He may not realise that in Madrid, his next stop, there are even more Falun Gong practitioners waiting for him. As long as the persecution of Falun Gong does not stop, the appeals will never stop!
