United States: Exposing the Persecution of Falun Dafa in China Before the Presidential Debate at Arizona State University

The final presidential debate was held at Arizona State University (ASU) on October 13th, 2004. As expected, all the major media spent a lot of resources to cover this debate. According to an official report from ASU, more than 1,000 media representatives came to cover the event live. Moreover, ASU has over 50,000 registered students. Practitioners in Arizona and nearby states realised that this debate would provide us with a precious opportunity to expose the persecutionto people in Arizona, as well to many others through the media.

On October 13th, practitioners in Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas, and some visiting Swedish practitioners, started activities to expose the persecution on the ASU campus. In the central area of the campus, we displayed photos illustrating Falun Dafa's spread over the world, as well as torture methods used in China to coerce practitioners to give up Falun Dafa. Meanwhile, some practitioners demonstrated the five sets of Falun Gong exercises to graceful music, others distributed fliers to passersby. We also put some beautiful paper lotus flowers in front of the practitioners who were demonstrating the exercises. Many students and visitors were attracted by our display and demonstration, and they picked up fliers. Those who had questions came to us for answers, and there were also many who asked for the paper lotus flowers. People who had viewed the photo display were all shocked by the brutality of the Jiang regime's persecution, many were murmuring, "My God, how can they be so cruel? My God, this is brutal!" There were also some people who brought their friends to see the photos and told their friends about the persecution.

As always, many people wanted to learn the Falun Gong exercises after they saw our photo display and exercise demonstration. Some asked for information of local contact people and some learned the exercise at the site. In the afternoon, there were many groups who came to protest quite loudly. In contrast, our demonstration and display was very peaceful. Some told us, "Your site is the only peaceful one on campus today, and this is why I came over to where you are." Some also told us: "The energy here is very strong."

Besides passersby, our site also attracted many media. 2 or 3 TV stations interviewed us and asked us in detail about features of Falun Dafa and the ongoing persecution. Because each of us had strong righteous thoughts, intent on assisting Master Li in Fa rectification and letting people know the truth, we collaborated very well and the result was very good. Wedistributed more than 5,000 fliers, many people wanted to learn about Falun Dafa and the persecution, and they expressed their sympathy and support.
