The anti-torture exhibition that has been touring the United Kingdom returned to Scotland for three days on the weekend of the 26th of September. It was shown in the cities of Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen. Practitioners gave out leaflets to let people know about Falun Dafa and the crimes against humanity that have been committed against Falun Gong practitioners in China under orders from former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.
In Glasgow the response was overwhelming. All the leaflets were given out much quicker than expected but practitioners continued to talk to people about the persecution in China and many signed the petition.
Many people signed petitions to bring Jiang to justice |
The next day in the main square of Dundee city centre, the contrast between the beautiful exercises and the two torture exhibits touched the hearts of many passers by. Again the petitions to “Bring Jiang to Justice" and "Rescue Practitioners’ Illegally Imprisoned Family Members" were constantly being signed while practitioners talked to many people in depth about the nature of this persecution and how it aims at destroying practitioners' belief and faith.
Across the other side of the square a long row of Falun Gong banners, billowing vigorously like colourful sails in the stiff breeze, drew a lot of attention. Pausing to take time out to ponder the terrible abuses of human rights that are taking place against people who follow the Falun Gong principles of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance in China, they would then hurry over to add their names to the petition. Some people wanted to know more about practising Falun Gong and hoped to come to the free classes given locally. One person said that he would download the book Zhuan Falun (the main text of Falun Dafa) as soon as he got home.
The practitioners acting as the torture victims knew that it is impossible to imagine the real agony suffered by their fellow practitioners in China, such as electric shocking with multiple electric batons, having bamboo sticks forced under the fingernails and being burned with hot irons. They were amazed that in over five years of brutal persecution with over 1,000 people tortured to death there has never been a single case of Falun Gong practitioners retaliating to their persecutors. This really verified the power of Falun Gong and its guiding principles of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance.
The exhibition moved on to Aberdeen. Even though the exhibition venue was not in the centre of town and was situated in a beautiful but quieter area, many people found their way to the Falun Gong stall to find out more and sign the petition.
Telling people about the persecution |
The brutality of the persecution is also drawing more and more media attention. Articles about the events were posted in the Dundee Courier, the Aberdeen Independent and an interview with a practitioner of Falun Gong was aired on Radio Clyde.
