The Torture of Practitioner Liu Guangxiu

Liu Guangxiu, female, 37 years old, is a resident of Huanghua Village, Dafeng Township, Xindu County, Sichuan Province.

On December 17, 2000, Beijing police officers detained Liu Guangxiu as she went to appeal in Beijing. The police escorted her and several other practitioners to an underground jail not far from Badaling Mountain where they were savagely tortured. Since Liu Guangxiu did not cooperate with the abusive policemen, they undressed her, leaving her wearing only her undergarments. They forced her to stand outside on the snowy ground for 24 hours. In the meantime, they poured icy water all over her body and force-fed water through her nose. After she was tortured for two weeks, the police told her, "If you tell your name and address, you will be sent back home and we will not bother you any more." The police escorted her back to Dafeng Township, Xindu County, however, she was not allowed to return home. Instead she was cuffed, shackled and imprisoned in Dafeng Township's Police Station where she was tortured and abused both mentally and physically. Policemen Liu and Yang Huizhong beat and insulted her. Not giving in after having endured over 24 hours of such brutality, she was put into Xindu County Detention Centre and held for two months.

Policemen later brought Liu Guangxiu back to Dafeng Township's police station and tortured her again. They locked her up in a dirty, smelly and dark room while she was still handcuffed and shackled. Policemen Yang and Liu tried again to force Liu Guangxiu to give up her belief in "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance" and write a "guarantee statement" to denounce Falun Dafa. Refusing to cooperate, they tortured her for another 24 hours but still got nothing. She was sent back to Xindu County and detained for another 40 days. Liu Guangxiu's family repeatedly asked the police to release her. Policeman Yang Huaizhong said that they could only release her in shackles and sent Liu Guangxiu home still shackled. The police refused to unlock the shackles even at her home. Liu Guangxiu was tortured in this way over two weeks. Only when Liu Guangxiu's feet were terribly infected did the police take off the shackles.

About 8:00 a.m. on April 18, 2001, when Liu Guangxiu was still asleep, officers from Dafeng Township's police station broke into her home. They beat and then dragged her into a bus, and then tortured her for 24 hours at the police station. They detained her in the Ningxia Street Jail in Chengdu for a month. Afterwards, without going through proper legal procedures, they sentenced her to one year of forced labour in the Zizhong Female Forced Labour Camp. Currently Liu Guangxiu is being tortured and abused in the labour camp.
