Below are the circumstances regarding Falun Gong practitioner Yang Xiaojie and his wife Liu Runling in Shijiazhuang City, who were illegally sentenced to 11 years in prison.

They have a 15-year-old daughter named Yang Wenjing, who is a ninth grader. Because her parents were sentenced to prison for persisting in their belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance", Yang Wenjing was forced to live with her grandparents, who are in their late 60s and have very little income. Their home belongs to Yang Xiaojie's work unit and is about to be demolished. Yang Wenjing and her grandparents are about to become homeless.

Current address: Room 303 Unit 5 Building 5, No 95 Yuan, South Ping'an Street, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province

Grandfather: Yang Gentian, 68 years old

Grandmother: Cui Fugui, 66 years old

Wenjing's father Yang Xiaojie is 39 years old and had originally worked for the China Youth Daily North Division. On September 29, 2000 he and his wife went into exile. Yang Xiaojie was arrested in the evening on September 28, 2001. In July 2003 he was illegally sentenced to 11 years in prison and was sent to the Beijiao Prison, formerly the No. 4 Prison in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province.

Liu Runling is 40 years old, and she had worked at the Yuji Cosmetics Store. On September 29, 2000 she and her husband went into exile to avoid the persecution. In the evening of September 28, 2001 she was arrested in the Kaida District in Shijiazhuang City. She was brutally beaten and sent to the Penghou Street Police Station. From there she was transferred to the No. 1 Detention Centre, where she is held until now. She was forced to sit on a "metal chair" (a torture instrument) for seven days and nights. The perpetrators then transferred her to the First Detention Centre and from there eventually to the Xinle City Detention Centre, the Shijiazhuang City's Dongfeng Road Detention Centre and are now imprisoning her at Shijiazhuang City's Second Detention Centre.

On February 10, 2002, perpetrators from the Qiaoxi District Prosecutor's in Shijiazhuang City issued arrest warrants for nine practitioners, including Liu Runling and her husband, Zhao Lishan, a writer and a member of Hebei Province's Writers' Association; Zhang Shijun, an employee of Hebei Province Weather Bureau; Lan Qizhi, an employee of the Shijiazhuang City Preservation and Transportation Company; Shi Yan from Chengde City, Zhang Lingjiang, a clothes vendor; Niu Mingang, assistant manager of a Freight Station for Shijiazhuang City's Railroad Bureau, and Wang Yunman, an employee at the Shijiazhuang City's Rubber Factory. Official at the Qiaoxi District Court illegally tried them on September 9, 2002. With the power of these nine above-mentioned practitioners' righteous thoughts, the trial ended without a verdict.

In May 2003, Liu Runling was sent to the No. 2 Prison in Shijazhuang City and is being held there.
