In March of 2002, some policemen searched my home looking for anything related to Falun Dafa. Once they had finished they took me to the local police station where they tried to extort a confession from me through torture. After about eight hours of torture, they asked me, "Will you continue to practise Falun Gong if we release you?" I told them, "I have the truth in my hands. Of course, I will continue practising Falun Gong." Upon hearing this the policemen sent me to the detention centre.
Once I arrived at the prison, a group of criminals came up to me and prepared to give me the normal beating given to all newcomers. When the leader of the gang realised I was a Falun Dafa practitioner, he asked me to show the Falun Dafa exercise movements to them. I sat in the lotus position (where one leg is place on top of the other, the normal meditation position) and demonstrated to them the movements of the fifth exercise. After watching me they applauded. The gang leader also praised my posture and my ability to sit in the lotus position. Later, when two criminals were rude to me, the gang leader immediately sent somebody to stop them. The gang leader asked me, "What is good about Falun Dafa?" I replied, "Falun Dafa is the Buddha Law. It emphasises virtue and teaches people to be truthful in their actions and deeds by assimilating to the characteristic of the universe, which is Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance. Falun Dafa teaches us to improve ourselves by always considering others first and becoming truly selfless."
The gang leader nodded and told me, "I had to wait months for you. Once you walked into the prison, I recognised you." upon hearing this I was puzzled and wondered how it was he recognised me?
The gang leader went on to say, "When I was born, two old monks came to my home and told my parents, 'Your new son is our master, who has reincarnated in your family. Remember to bring him to the temple to forge a relationship when he is five years old. The boy will have tribulations and will go to jail when for six years when he reaches the age of twenty five. Whilst being detained in jail he will meet an older man who is the reverse of his age, in other words he will be 52. That man will tell him the most important thing. You must make sure the boy remembers this.' Today everything the monks said has come true. I'm 25 years old and you are 52 years old."
I suddenly understood that the gang leader had a predestined relationship with me. He had ended up here solely to learn about Falun Dafa. He had come for the Fa (universal law, the teachings in Falun Dafa). The gang leader also believed we had a predestined relationship. He told me, "Here you don't need to take part in any of the various duties. You can sit in meditation or practise the Falun Dafa exercises. Without my say so, nobody would dare touch you."
The prison was monitored very strictly. The gang leader asked me to tell them stories when I wasn't practising the exercises. I would remember a story with a good moral to promote Falun Dafa and gradually, one by one, the inmates accepted Falun Dafa. I also helped them understand the principle of karmic retribution, and they eventually gave up their habit of resolving things with physical violence.
When the inmates realised that Falun Dafa was great, the gang leader was sent away to a forced labour camp. Because the predestined relationship had ended, I realised that I shouldn't be detained there anymore. Two days later my detention ended.
I gave all my personnel belongings to the criminals and told them to remember Master's teachings. All the criminals shook hands with me to say good-bye.
The local policeman who came to bring me back witnessed this scene and said, "You managed to get along with them so well. They all held great respected for you." I responded, "Falun Gong taught me Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, and that good is rewarded with good." After all the paperwork was completed, the policeman told me to write a statement renouncing Falun Gong. I said, "Even if you shot me right now, I would not write such a statement!" The policeman relented and said, "It's ok. You don't have to write it. But remember not to talk casually about this after you get out. I really admire your character." I said, "That comes from Master's teaching."
In the company of relatives and friends, I left the prison in a dignified and upright manner.
