Learning Chinese and Reading the Chinese Version of Zhuan Falun

The following is a story of a western Falun Gong practitioner. Peter is now twenty eight years old. For the past seven to eight years, he has lived at home for half the time and travelled around for the other half. Most of the time he went to Asian countries, including China. He was very interested in Tai-Ji, meditation and so on and began practising these disciplines all the time. About one and half years ago he met a woman who practised Falun Gong while he was practising Tai-Ji in Malaysia. This lady told him what Falun Gong was all about and the persecution happening in China. After having listened to this lady he came to a certain understanding about Falun Gong. He realised that it is what he’d been looking for, and after a period of time, he firmly took the path of returning to his original, true self through practising Falun Gong.

After a while Peter then went to China and spoke about Falun Gong to his girlfriend. At the beginning his girlfriend found it very difficult to accept his words and wasn’t willing to talk about it due to the heavy influx of propaganda. After listening to what Peter had to say she came to accept shat he was trying to tell her. Peter also wanted to tell his girlfriend’s parents the truth. Once he was invited to his girl friend’s parents’ house, however, they did not want to talk about Falun Gong. At that time Peter couldn’t speak Chinese therefore he couldn’t convince them. Later on when he came back to Europe, he wrote a letter to his girlfriend’s parents. He asked someone to translate it into Chinese and copied it in person, then he sent it to them. His girlfriend’s family all felt astonished that a foreigner could write Chinese. Most of his girlfriend’s family believed what Peter wrote in the letter: Falun Dafa Hao (Falun Dafa is Good).

In order to understand Master’s original words, Peter started to study Chinese six months ago. He has a software program which tells him each Chinese character’s meaning. Through the help of the software, Peter started to read the Chinese version of “Zhuan Falun”, a book containing the teachings in Falun Gong. When he read the unknown words or terms, he would write them down. Gradually Peter came to remember more and more words and now he no longer needs the help of the software. Even if you pick a sentence from “Zhuan Falun”, Peter can understand it’s meaning. After reading the English translation, Peter can read every Chinese Falun Dafa book or new article. If he has not read the English translation, he can probably understand 70% of the new article. Peter can not speak or understand Chinese as yet, but he is making remarkable efforts to achieve this goal.

Peter’s mother said that he’s talented with languages, however, Peter himself doesn’t think he has any natural ability. Before starting to practise Falun Dafa, Peter had tried to study Chinese. Except for gaining a few basic things such as how to greet people, he hardly made any advances. However upon starting to practise Falun Dafa his ability to understand Chinese has greatly improved. Peter said “This is all from Falun Dafa.”
